"London Bridge" This etching was published around 1724 and was originally owned by King George III. It depicts in beautiful detail the old London Bridge, started in 1176 and not finished until 1209, the bridge had nineteen piers linked by nineteen arches and a wooden drawbridge. All the houses were shops, and the bridge was one of the City of London's four or five main shopping streets. After a long history the bridge was removed in 1831 when the new London Bridge was opened.
