In contrast to ordinary sheep's wool, the merino fibers are much finer and only half as thick. The merino fibers range between 16.5 and 24 micrometers (= thousandths of a millimeter). New wool offers excellent insulation protection against cold and heat, because its curled fibers can contain up to 85 percent air in relation to their total volume.
