Winning the Cruiserweight Championship in France Haye travelled to France in November 2007 to challenge Jean-Marc Mormeck for the WBA and WBC cruiserweight championships, together with recognition from The Ring. Mormeck was an experienced champion competing in front of his home support and knocked Haye down in the fourth round. The British challenger recovered and gradually created openings. In the seventh round, Haye landed a powerful combination that sent Mormeck to the canvas and brought the contest to an end. Rather than immediately leaving the division, Haye agreed to meet WBO champion Enzo Maccarinelli in a major all-British unification contest at the O2 Arena in March 2008.
