2015 Quintarelli, Amarone della Valpolicella

ABOUT THE WINE. Founded in the  northern Veronese village of Negrar in 1924, the Quintarelli winery is renowned for making highly sought after hedonistic wines. A family run winery now under the stewardship of the third-generation of the Quintarelli family, they only release their Amarone in truly exceptional years.. TASTING NOTES. A long maceration, followed by a slow fermentation of 45 days, and seven years in oak barrels produce an exceptional wine which is dense and extremely rich without becoming heavy or cloying. On the nose you'll find liqueur cherries, blackberries, forest floor, tobacco, flowers and wood fires. The palate is imposing with powerful and deep raspberry and crushed bitter chocolate, dark red fruit, and a pleasant bitter orange note. A fine mineral and tannin line gives the wine structure.. FOOD PAIRING. Pairs well with mature cheeses, game, braised red meats, roasts and grilled meats.. FRIARWOOD SAYS. Drinking well now - and you may be tempted to open it - but this wine will keep for decades if stored properly. Some bottles of Quintarelli Amarone from the 60s still drink exceptionally well to this day. One to decant.
