Trapa natans (Floating aquatic)

Trapa natans is a lovely floating pond plant that forms pretty starburst patterns across the water’s surface. Its diamond-shaped, serrated leaves form elegant rosettes that transform into vivid shades of red and orange in autumn, while dainty white flowers brighten the pond in summer. Although an annual, in warm summers plants produce overwintering nuts that survive at the bottom of the pond and grow into new plants the following spring. Beyond its beauty, its dense foliage offers natural shade, helping to limit algae and support a balanced habitat for fish and wildlife. Ultimate height: 15cm (6in). Ultimate spread: 20cm (8in).
