The Sambucus nigra f.porphyrophylla ‘Eva’, commonly known as Black Lace Elder, is a hardy, deciduous shrub prized for its striking foliage and versatility. Easily grown in most conditions, this plant is an attractive addition to borders, woodlands, and wildlife gardens. This striking Elder boasts finely-cut, dark burgundy leaves that provide a dramatic display, turning to vibrant red in autumn.From early summer, fragrant pink flowers emerge in profusion, contrasting beautifully with the dark foliage. As summer ends, these are followed by glossy black fruits, a favourite among garden birds.Grow Black Lace in any moist but well-drained soil, in full sun or dappled shade. It will also thrive on poor, chalky soils. Minimal pruning is required, mainly for general maintenance and shaping in winter.
