Japanese Wineberry

The Wineberry is a very close relative to blackberries and raspberries, producing lovely sweet red berries, usually in August. The berries can be eaten fresh from the plant or cooked, to make preserves, jams and desserts like you would the previous mentioned berry alternatives. The plant itself is hardy, deciduous, fast-growing, easy to grow and high yielding when grown against a south-facing wall with plenty of sun. In winter the stems are red and slightly furry for a textural interest.
