•Newett Homes, a prominent housebuilder based in Yorkshire, has recently launched its very first Apprenticeship Scheme aimed at nurturing the next generation of skilled workers in the construction industry. This initiative is designed to support talented young people looking to kickstart their careers in bricklaying and other construction trades.
Apprenticeship Scheme Details
The new scheme will provide opportunities for young apprentices from across Yorkshire, combining classroom learning at Barnsley College with hands-on experience on live construction sites. This approach is vital for creating a workforce that can meet the growing demands of the construction industry.
Four students from Barnsley College have been selected to participate in the inaugural two-year programme. They were chosen after a competitive selection process where more than 30 students were interviewed. The successful apprentices—Charlie Shaw, Brayden Gilman, Wayne Kamhuka, and Jack Stott—will work closely with Newett Homes and its brickwork partners, including Bond Brickwork, Clover Brickwork, and Matthews and Robinson Construction.
Hands-On Experience
Starting this month, these apprentices will strive towards completing their Apprenticeship Standard in Brickwork. Their training will include:
Completing Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 qualifications at Barnsley College.
Gaining practical experience on-site at Newett Homes' award-winning developments.
Learning various skills such as bricklaying, jointing, stonework, and complex brickwork.
This comprehensive training will help them understand every stage of constructing a new home, from laying foundations to finishing touches, ensuring they are well-prepared for future jobs in the industry.
