•Today, as the Everything Electric event kicks off in Twickenham, two influential leaders in the electric vehicle (EV) sector are announcing an exciting new partnership. Pod, a leading provider of EV charging solutions, has teamed up with EVA England, an independent organisation dedicated to representing the interests of EV drivers across the country. This collaboration aims to make home charging more accessible and affordable for those making the switch to electric vehicles.
Partnership Overview
Pod has become EVA England's first-ever home charging partner, marking a significant step in supporting the growing community of electric vehicle drivers. The partnership is designed to offer EVA England members discounted home charging options, making it easier for them to transition to electric vehicles. With the rising popularity of EVs, having a reliable home charging solution is essential for many drivers.
Why Home Charging Matters
Charging at home is often seen as the most convenient way to keep an electric vehicle powered up. Research indicates that nearly 90% of drivers who have access to private parking and a home charger find their electric cars significantly cheaper to run compared to traditional petrol or diesel vehicles. However, many potential electric vehicle drivers feel uncertain about how home charging works. Surveys conducted by EVA England reveal that advice on home charging is one of the main concerns for those considering the switch to electric.
Discounted Charging Options
EVA England members can benefit from two main options for home charging through Pod:
Subscription Option: Members can subscribe to Pod Drive with no upfront fee. This includes waiving the standard setup cost of £99, followed by a monthly fee of £34 for a three-year term.
Purchase Option: Members can also buy a Pod Point home charger outright, receiving a £100 discount. This brings the price of an untethered unit down from £999 to £899.
Both options come with additional benefits, including access to Pod Power, a dedicated energy tariff offering cheaper off-peak electricity, and Pod Rewards, which pays customers for charging at optimal times.
Benefits of Pod Power and Pod Rewards
Pod Power by EDF is an energy tariff that allows users to benefit from a seven-hour window of cheaper electricity every night. This means that members can charge their cars overnight at just 6.49p per kWh, ensuring they wake up to a fully charged vehicle without breaking the bank.
Additionally, Pod Rewards incentivises smart charging by offering up to £100 a year for users who charge their vehicles during times of lower demand on the electricity grid. This not only helps balance energy consumption but also encourages the use of renewable energy sources.
Shared Vision for Accessible EV Transition
Both Pod and EVA England share a common belief that the transition to electric vehicles should be easy and open to everyone. EVA England advocates for fair and equitable access to electric vehicles, working tirelessly to shape a transport system that is cleaner and more sustainable. With over 300,000 customers relying on Pod's services, the company has established itself as a trusted name in the EV market, helping drivers navigate the shift to electric.
Voices from the Leaders
Dr. Vicky Edmonds, CEO of EVA England, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership:
“We are delighted to be partnering with Pod to provide extra support for EV drivers across the country, especially at a time when we need to remind drivers of the real benefits of switching to electric - cheaper running costs and a more convenient refuelling experience.”
She highlighted that the ability to charge affordably and seamlessly is a top priority for many drivers.
Melanie Lane, CEO at Pod, echoed this sentiment:
“EVA England has been instrumental in championing the voices of EV drivers and helping to shape the conditions that have enabled so many people to make the switch already. Our partnership is a natural match, rooted in a shared belief that the EV transition should be fair and accessible for all.”
Looking Ahead
The announcement of this partnership coincides with Vicky and Melanie's participation in the headline panel at Everything Electric Greater London, where they will discuss the future of the EV and greentech sector alongside other industry leaders. EVA England members can expect to receive direct communication regarding the home EV charging offers in the coming days, making it easier for them to take advantage of this new initiative.
