However, approximately one in three households in the UK do not have a driveway, which can make home charging seem impossible. Fortunately, a new partnership between Pod and Kerbo Charge is set to change that, offering a practical solution for those without off-street parking.
Pod And Kerbo Charge Join Forces
On 1 September 2026, Pod, a leading home EV charging provider, announced its collaboration with Kerbo Charge to provide a seamless home charging solution for drivers who park on the street. This partnership aims to make it easier for millions of people across the UK to charge their electric cars at home, even if they do not have a driveway. Kerbo Charge has developed a unique system that allows for the installation of a cross-pavement channel, which safely runs a charging cable from a home charger to the street. This solution is vital for those whose vehicles are parked on the road, as it eliminates the need for dangerous and unsightly trailing cables.
Affordable charging solutions
With the rise in electric vehicles, it is crucial that all drivers have access to affordable charging solutions. Currently, many people without driveways are forced to rely on costly public charging stations, which can be both inconvenient and expensive. The partnership between Pod and Kerbo Charge addresses this issue by offering an easy way to install a charging system at home.

This partnership not only aims to make EV charging accessible but also helps drivers take advantage of government grants that can significantly reduce the cost of installation.
How It Works
The process of getting a home charging solution is straightforward. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Drivers who need a charging solution can contact Pod to express their interest.
Step 2: Those without a driveway will be referred to Kerbo Charge, who will install the cross-pavement channel.
Step 3: Once the channel is in place, drivers can return to Pod to apply for the grant and have a Pod Point charger installed.
This streamlined process ensures that drivers can easily access both the channel and the charger without having to navigate multiple providers.
Incentives And Savings
Eligible drivers can receive up to £500 off the cost of installing a home charger through the government's Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant. This grant is available to households with on-street parking and is especially beneficial as it is the final year this grant will be available. In addition to the grant, switching from public charging to home charging can save drivers approximately £1,100 a year. Using a dedicated home tariff, such as Pod Power, which offers a low off-peak rate, further enhances these savings.
Pod Power provides a seven-hour nightly off-peak window at just 6.49p per kilowatt-hour, making it one of the most affordable options available. All Pod customers can also participate in the Pod Rewards programme, which allows them to earn up to £100 a year by optimising their charging times. This programme adjusts charging schedules to avoid peak hours and utilise renewable energy sources whenever possible.
Local Authority Support
Kerbo Charge is actively working with local authorities across the UK to get channel installations approved. The good news is that 81% of English local authorities have successfully applied for funds from the £25 million Electric Vehicle (EV) pavement channels grant. This means that many of the 8 million households without driveways will soon have access to a cross-pavement channel. In Scotland, a separate grant funded by Transport Scotland offers up to £3,500 towards a cross-pavement charging solution, with applications currently being accepted in areas like East Lothian and Renfrewshire. Drivers interested in finding out if their street is eligible can check directly with Kerbo Charge.
