|On Saturday, 15th August 2026, Ripon Racecourse hosted a fantastic day of racing, and the results were not just about horses crossing the finish line. The event raised an impressive £30,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, thanks to the support of leading bookmaker, William Hill. This contribution brings them closer to a significant milestone in their fundraising efforts, as they work towards a £1 million target for the charity.
William Hill's Support
William Hill has been a dedicated partner of the MND Association, and this event marked another successful day in their ongoing collaboration. The funds raised came from the profits of two key races: the William Hill/MND Association Great St Wilfrid Handicap and the William Hill Supporting MND Silver Cup Handicap. These races are part of Ripon’s biggest raceday, drawing in crowds and punters alike.
Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for William Hill, expressed delight at the outcome of the day:
“After a brilliant day’s racing at Ripon, we are pleased to have donated a further £30,000 to the MND Association.”
He also highlighted the excitement of the races, noting that they were lively betting heats with unexpected outcomes, all contributing to a great cause.
Impact of the Fundraising
The total amount raised by William Hill for the MND Association has now reached nearly £500,000, bringing them closer to their ambitious goal of £1 million. This funding is crucial for the MND Association, which provides support for individuals and families affected by motor neurone disease, a condition that affects the nervous system and can lead to severe health challenges.

£1 million target for the MND Association
The MND Association uses donations to fund research into the disease, as well as to provide care and support services for those living with MND. Every pound raised helps to improve the lives of families facing this difficult condition, making events like the one at Ripon all the more important.
Excitement at Ripon
The day was filled with excitement, as racing fans gathered to watch the horses compete in the featured events. The Great St Wilfrid Handicap and the Silver Cup Handicap are both highlights of the summer racing calendar at Ripon, and this year’s races did not disappoint. With well-backed favourites being turned over, the atmosphere was electric, and the stakes were high.
William Hill’s involvement in these races has not only provided entertainment for racing enthusiasts but has also fostered a sense of community and purpose. The partnership with the MND Association allows fans to enjoy the thrill of betting while also contributing to a vital cause.
Continuing fundraising
As the year progresses, William Hill is optimistic about breaking through the £500,000 barrier before the end of 2026. The continued support from the public and racing fans will be crucial in achieving their £1 million target. Phelps remains hopeful, stating, “We expect to break through by the end of the year as we continue fundraising to get to the £1m target.”
With more events planned, there are plenty of opportunities for supporters to contribute to the MND Association in the future.
