|The vibrant atmosphere of the Musicport Festival is set to return to Whitby this autumn, offering a unique blend of local talent and global artistry. From Friday, October 23rd, to Sunday, October 25th, the festival will take place at the iconic Whitby Pavilion, a venue known for its stunning sea views and rich history. This year, the festival embraces an elemental theme that celebrates earth, water, fire, and air, making it a perfect fit for the coastal town.
Community Spirit at Musicport
Musicport 2026 is more than just a music festival; it’s a celebration of community and creativity. The event showcases a wide range of performers, from emerging stars to established artists, all united by their passion for music. With a line-up that features acts from North, West, and East Yorkshire as well as the North East, attendees can expect a diverse range of sounds and styles. The festival is supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, ensuring that it remains accessible to all.
Sue McLaughlin, the Festival Operations Director, emphasises the importance of community involvement:
“Being an indoor festival creates a really special, friendly and intimate ambience for all ages. We have people coming from far and wide in the UK and beyond, as well as those who have the luxury of being able to just ‘pop down the road’. Loyal returners and new faces are all welcomed, and we’re constantly working to involve younger people and local communities with our workshops and pre-festival concerts in surrounding villages.”
A Stellar Lineup
This year's festival promises an impressive array of talent. Some of the notable acts include:
Eliza Carthy & The Restitution (North Yorkshire) - A celebrated folk musician and daughter of folk legends, Eliza will perform songs from her new album, Frenemies.
Harry Gallagher (Tyneside) - Known for his heartfelt performances, Gallagher blends music with spoken word to reflect the humour and resilience of working-class life.
Sue Conroy (North Yorkshire) - This singer-songwriter brings a mix of protest anthems and heartfelt ballads, with a strong focus on social issues and local heritage.
Hector Gannet (Tyne & Wear) - Aaron Duff leads this group known for its modern folk sound, gaining recognition for their engaging live performances.
Jessie Reid (Shropshire) - A rising indie-folk star, Reid captivates audiences with her unique guitar style and emotive vocals.
In addition to these acts, the festival will also feature international artists from countries such as Mali, Vietnam, and Morocco, enriching the cultural experience for festival-goers.
The Lobster Lounge: A Creative Space
One of the highlights of Musicport 2026 is the Lobster Lounge, a relaxed area designed to foster creativity and community spirit. Managed by Joe Redfern from the Whitby Lobster Hatchery, this space embodies the festival's theme by connecting the local maritime culture with global artistic expressions. Tickets here.
