Haunted Yorkshire After Dark is a private evening tour from York exploring some of North Yorkshire’s most atmospheric villages, ruins and historic places after sunset. This is not a theatrical ghost tour. There are no actors, costumes or jump scares. Instead, the evening focuses on real history, local folklore, strange stories and the darker side of Yorkshire’s past, experienced in the places where those stories belong. The route takes you north from York through Crayke, with a stop at historic St Cuthbert’s Church, before continuing to the haunting ruins of Byland Abbey. From there, travel through the North Yorkshire countryside to Helmsley, where there is time to stop for food or a drink and explore around the castle and market town after dark. The journey continues past the Castle Howard estate before reaching the atmospheric ruins of Sheriff Hutton Castle, then returning to York late in the evening. Because this is a private tour, the vehicle is exclusively for your group of up to four guests. There is no coach, no large group and no fixed commentary script. The evening is relaxed, flexible and designed around the atmosphere of the locations themselves.
