|Today, students in York are celebrating their achievements as they receive their GCSE and Key Stage 4 results. This significant milestone marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and education leaders from the City of York Council have extended their heartfelt congratulations to all students on this memorable day, 20 August 2026.
Cllr Bob Webb's Message
Cllr Bob Webb, the Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, shared his thoughts on the occasion:
"Congratulations to all the young people receiving their GCSE and Key Stage 4 results today. Reaching this point reflects years of hard work, commitment and determination, and I would also like to thank the teachers, school staff, parents, carers and families who have supported students throughout their journey."
He emphasised that this day is not just about results but also about celebrating each student's unique achievements. Cllr Webb encouraged students to look forward to their next steps, whether that be moving on to sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, training, or entering the workforce. "These results mark the beginning of your next chapter," he added.
Support for Students
For those students who may feel disappointed with their results, Cllr Webb reminded them that exams are just one measure of their abilities. "It is important to remember that exams only measure a very small part of you and your skills, talents and potential remain incredibly important," he said. He encouraged all young people to reach out to their schools or colleges for guidance on their options moving forward.
