Recently, Redrow announced important updates regarding the ongoing works on Monks Cross Link Road, which is currently partially closed. This closure is part of a significant project aimed at developing the new Monks Cross Garden Village. The temporary closure of the northbound lane is allowed until 6th November 2026, as part of a long-term plan to improve infrastructure in the area.

Impact on Local Traffic

The roadworks on Monks Cross Link Road are necessary for the construction of new homes in the Monks Cross Garden Village. Redrow has acknowledged that these works may cause some disruption for local residents and businesses. In a statement, a spokesperson from Redrow Yorkshire said:

“We understand that the roadworks are causing some disruption and inconvenience for local residents and businesses. We've written to local people with more information about the works, which are expected to continue until early November.”

To help manage the situation, Redrow is collaborating closely with the City of York Council and their contractors. They are introducing additional traffic management measures to improve traffic flow during this period. Keeping the community informed is a priority, and Redrow has committed to proactively communicating about any future highway works.

What’s Being Built?

The Monks Cross Garden Village is an ambitious project that aims to create a vibrant new neighbourhood over the next decade. This development will include:

  • 970 new homes

  • A primary school

  • Sports pitches

  • A shop

  • A new country park

Currently, Redrow is working on the first phase of this development, which includes the construction of 314 homes. Notably, 30% of these homes will be affordable, which means they will be available at lower prices for those who need them. Additionally, 5% of the homes are designated for self and custom build properties, allowing individuals to design their own homes.
