DoubleTree by Hilton York

This is my second stay here. Great staff, especially around the breakfast service. Rooms come in all shapes and sizes. Large to very cozy. Bathrooms have large tubs to soak in and that's something I greatly appreciate as a visitor to the city walking many miles each day. Beds could use a little refresher to memory foam, but are generally comfortable. Fantastic location. The only reason you need a taxi is to get to and from the train station with luggage. You can walk anywhere else within the old city walls from the Doubletree. The lounge is nice with comfortabley sized couches and chairs. Great views of the York walls and Monk bar. I would stay here again.

Always have a great stay here. Warmly welcomed by Hazel on reception who made a dinner reservation for me and upgraded my room. Room was spotlessly clean with a huge bed and comfy pillows. Tried the new restaurant menu, pie was so good with homemade mash, really tasty gravy and a side of roasted carrots. All excellent quality and nicely presented. I couldn't resist trying the lemon meringue pie which was delicious. Thanks to Ricardo for excellent service and warm hospitality!

I recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton in York City for one night and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The customer service was absolutely impeccable, every member of staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly throughout the stay. A special touch that really stood out was the help received with carrying bags to the room, which immediately made the experience feel personal and very well looked after. The hotel itself is in a superb location, perfect for exploring York. Parking at the hotel is available on a first come, first served basis, and i was lucky enough to get one! But there is also another convenient car park nearby at Monk Bar if needed. The room was comfortable and relaxing, especially the wonderfully comfortable pillows which made for a great night’s sleep. The only thing to note is if you are a light sleeper bring some earplugs for extra comfort from any inherent outside noise. It didnt bother me but some rooms are not sound proof. Breakfast the following morning offered a really good variety of choices including, all served with the same attentive and professional service experienced throughout the hotel. The lovely orangery chill-out space was another highlight, such a beautiful, peaceful area with very comfortable seating options, ideal for relaxing during the stay. So don't let the current google review rating put you off if you are thinking of booking! I think the rating should be reflected higher and hopefully this one will help. The only extra thing I would ask for would be complimentary water in the room. Aside from that, everything was excellent and exceeded expectations. :) Even though it was only a one-night stay, it left a lasting positive impression and I will definitely be back again!

The air conditioning did not work, the front desk said “they don’t advertise air conditioning”; didn’t offer a fan or anything. It is July, and hot. The room smelled musky and moldy, and we had to carry our suitcases up two flights of stairs. While the location is good, the rooms and service were not. Very disappointed.

Yes the hotel is tired and could really do with some money spent on it but it is cheaper than some of the other hotels, so I guess that's why. It was ideal for what we needed. Staff were really friendly. The hotel has steps everywhere which does make it an access problem depending on your room allocation.
