A mixed review for this hotel. An Ok option for the price with better alternative hotels recommended instead. Positives: - The room was well presented and was clean. - The location of the hotel to the central park of York was just a short walk. - Facilities were well laid out and modern. Negatives: - Check in took a little bit of time as there were several groups also trying to check in just after 6pm. The one female staff member was trying to cover both check in and also trying to serve the bar on her own. Not her fault but poor staffing. - The sofa bed for our 6yo was not made up as per the booking and housekeeping had gone home for the day. Again, a couple of staff members came to the rescue and made it up as we were out for dinner. Good staff clearly trying their best. - Breakfast was average quality, bacon was rubbery and eggs dry, disappointing really. I would have preferred a cheaper rate and a good quality Cafe Breakfast.
While the location of this hotel is fantastic—being within a five-minute walking distance of all the main streets and central attractions—and the reception staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, I was disappointed by several aspects of my stay. By a large margin, the cleanliness was the most significant issue; the bathroom, particularly the toilet, was not properly cleaned, and I had to use my own hygiene kits to sanitize it myself. Furthermore, the breakfast menu is far too limited, catering almost exclusively to traditional English tastes. As an international hotel, I would have expected a more diverse selection, including basic staples like olives and a variety of cheeses. Overall, while the service and location were great, the hotel needs to significantly improve its hygiene standards and breakfast offerings to better accommodate international guests
Very nice rooms. The breakfast that was provided was fabulous. A variety of different breakfast foods and was very accommodating to gluten allergies. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. One member made me a decaf oat milk latte. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
The hotel is fine, but just fine. The breakfast is pretty awful. Tinned fruit rather than fresh and the hot items kept running out and not replenished. A few pastry items and some orange juice, that’s about it. Staff were run off their feet so when I asked about items being replenished, it was a hurried “they should be soon” response. The coffee making facilities in the room is a sachet of instant coffee, honestly, the room looks cheaper with the instant coffee, it would be better not to have any coffee or tea at all. For £250 per night, if the hotel is going to advertise as 3*, make it 3* prices.
Great hotel, clean, airy, rooms are lovely. Breakfast is continental plus hot food which is a bonus. Central to everything, about 20min walk to station. Great location, shops and bars near by. Would definitely stay again.
