About Highwayman Tours

Highwayman Tours is a York-based private tour company offering driven day tours across Yorkshire for small groups of up to four guests.

We created Highwayman Tours to offer a more personal way to explore Yorkshire. Many of the region’s best places are difficult to reach without a car, while large coach tours often mean fixed routes, tight schedules and very little flexibility. Our tours are designed to be the opposite. We collect guests in York or surrounds, travel in a comfortable private vehicle, and build the day around the people travelling with us.

Our routes explore the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, Whitby and the coast, Brontë Country, historic abbeys, castles, villages and lesser-known places that visitors might otherwise miss. Along the way, we share the history, stories, folklore and character of Yorkshire, from ruined monasteries and medieval strongholds to dramatic landscapes and hidden country roads.

What makes Highwayman Tours different is the freedom of a genuinely private tour. There is no coach, no large group and no rigid timetable. If guests want longer somewhere, we can usually stay longer. If the weather changes or something interesting comes up along the way, we can adapt the route.

Highwayman Tours was built around a simple idea: visitors should be able to experience much more of Yorkshire in a single day without having to hire a car or organise every part of the journey themselves.

We are proud to be based in York and to show visitors the Yorkshire we know, from its famous landmarks to the places well beyond the usual tourist trail.
