We have just stayed in the twitcher for 2 nights with our dog, wow ! It was amazing, so much space for her to run outside along with access to the dog field which we used everyday. It’s so private which is just what you need with a rescue dog. We also fed the alpacas one morning! Everything has been thought of here, you don’t need or want for anything. We sat in the hot tub each night watching the sunset whilst watching a film on the tv or listening to music. Went on a walk to the 2 local pubs and both food and drink was amazing. Really will 100% stay again.
A Quirky and Cozy Country Retreat: Review of Howgill Farm Lodges - The Gamekeeper We recently enjoyed a lovely weekend break at The Gamekeeper lodge at Howgill Farm Lodges, finding it a truly peaceful and charming escape, even during the quieter, off-season period. While we experienced a few minor setbacks, the overall stay was delightful and the surrounding area absolutely stunning. The Lodge: Quirky Comfort The Gamekeeper lodge is decorated in a wonderfully quirky style that immediately made us feel welcome and interested. It was fully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable weekend, feeling incredibly cosy and warm. The highlight was undoubtedly the log burner in the living area, providing a perfect atmosphere for a relaxing evening. We appreciated the lovely touches left by the host, including tea and coffee facilities, and the delicious chocolate brownies—a thoughtful start to our stay! Location and Activities We loved the tranquil setting, which was incredibly peaceful during our visit. We imagine it can get quite busy in the summer months, but for a quiet pre-Christmas break, it was ideal. We made great use of the provided walking guides, enjoying a beautiful river walk that culminated in a very friendly and welcoming stop at the New Inn pub. A major highlight was spending time with the farm's residents! The alpacas were fab, and getting the chance to feed them was a real treat. Exceptional Hosts and Staff The hosts were exceptionally kind and welcoming. We must give a special mention to the American staff member. He is an absolute asset to the site—so friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely great to chat with. He must get tired of hearing "you sound local" daily, but his conversation and warmth were truly appreciated and enhanced our experience. Areas for Improvement While we had a great time, a couple of things didn't quite hit the mark: - Hot Tub Challenge: We are seasoned hot tub users, including wood-fired models, but we struggled with this particular tub. It was difficult to get the water up to temperature and even harder to maintain it. After a frustrating dip on night one, we opted not to use it on the second night. - Outdoor Area: The lack of cover over the outside area was a disappointment, especially as it led us to abandon our planned pizza-making when we were hit with torrential rain. - Upkeep: The lodge could benefit from a bit of a spruce up to match the quality of the décor and location. - Wood Supply: Given how many amenities (the log burner, the hot tub, fire pit) require wood to work, it felt like a bit disappointing to have to pay for extra supplies and not be permitted to bring our own, on top of the cost of the stay itself. - Lodge location: The Gamekeeper lodge is located directly at the entrance and so not very private. It wasn't an issue for us at this quiet time of year, but I would be disappointed in high season to find that a premium-priced lodge offers so little in the way of seclusion or privacy from passing guests and staff. Overall Verdict All in all, this was a lovely little break. The areas for improvement are minor compared to the quality of the surroundings, the cozy interior, and the wonderful staff. The area is absolutely stunning and worth the trip for the views alone. A highly recommended spot for a quirky, peaceful, and warm countryside getaway!
We are currently having a beautiful stay here everything from check in and setting up went smoothly, the owners are lovely very friendly and accommodating. Facilities are great lovely toilet blocks, warm relaxing shower a great modern pot wash area and fridge freezer! The shop is well kept and tidy and the pitches are just as immaculate as the views!!! Upon arrival we were even informed of a separate field to walk the dogs (they can even go off lead) I can’t think of a better place to go.
We have recently returned from a great 5dy/4nt stay here. Our first family camping experience on plot 42, a luxury large plot with electric. Great location, site and facilities. Peaceful and friendly. Access to a fridge, freezer, washer, dryer and hair dryers. A picnic bench on every plot and fire pits available to hire. Handy little shop with core essentials and hot drinks and pastries in the morning. Kids also loved feeding the alpaca’s, and spotting all of the rabbits and ducks. Sheep in the neighbouring fields which can be heard but didn’t bother us. A lovely brownie place too a short walk away and a little further some proper farmhouse ice cream. With Skipton, Ilkley and other quaint village’s and towns within a half hours drive, there’s plenty to do. Robertshaw’s in Skipton is also a must for fresh local produce.
We have just spent the weekend here in our caravan. The site is quite literally picture perfect, in a beautiful location and at this time of year just stunning. Every member of staff we came across were super helpful and friendly, the children loved feeding the alpacas with them too. I wouldn’t return with our double axle caravan as the route to site was difficult, very narrow and hard to drive if you aren’t confident when towing although this is clear and mentioned when booking so wasn’t a surprise to us. However we also have a tentbox and I would absolutely return with that and the children. The facilities were great and always nice and clean. My only whinge would be that the showers are push button, I know this is a personal preference but it just dims the experience for me and I find it difficult with children.
