|Some comedians feel less like performers and more like a familiar friend. That’s exactly what Victoria Wood was for millions of people across the UK. Her songs and sketches were like a warm hug, full of wit and brilliant observations about everyday life. For anyone missing that unique brand of comedy, there's some brilliant news. The sell-out tribute show, Looking For Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood, is heading back out on a UK tour, bringing all that laughter and warmth back to the stage. This heartfelt show is a fantastic celebration of her music and genius, perfect for die-hard fans and a wonderful introduction for those who missed out the first time around. It’s more than just a performance; it’s a chance to remember a true national treasure.

What's the show all about?
Imagine settling in for an evening that feels both brand new and wonderfully nostalgic. That's the magic of this special tribute show. It’s not just a run-through of greatest hits; it’s a personal journey. At the centre of it all is the writer and performer, Paulus the Cabaret Geek. You might recognise him from BBC One's All Together Now. Paulus doesn't just perform the music of Victoria Wood; he weaves it into his own stories of growing up in the 1980s. He shares how her work became the soundtrack to his life, and in doing so, he taps into a feeling shared by a massive audience across the country. It’s a show packed with brilliant comedy and plenty of heart.
He’s not alone on stage, either. The incredibly talented Michael Roulston joins him on the piano, bringing Victoria Wood's unforgettable tunes to life. The audience can expect to be singing along (or at least humming) to classics that are etched into the nation's memory. Think of the brilliantly chaotic story in the ‘Ballad of Barry & Freda (Let’s Do It)’ or the hilarious and slightly heartbreaking ‘It Would Never Have Worked’. The entire evening is designed to create an atmosphere of shared joy and warmth, a perfect mix of belly laughter and maybe even a quiet, happy tear. The show beautifully captures both the light and dark in the work of Victoria Wood, showing just how clever her writing truly was.
Who are the people behind the magic?
A show this special needs a brilliant team, and the creatives behind Looking For Me Friend are top-tier. The main performer, Paulus the Cabaret Geek, is the driving force, bringing his personal connection to the music of Victoria Wood to every performance. His love for her work is clear, making the show feel incredibly authentic. Joining him is the pianist, Michael Roulston, known for his work with other comedy legends like Fascinating Aïda. Together, they form a perfect duo, delivering the songs with skill and a whole lot of passion.
The cast and creatives are guided by the acclaimed director Sarah-Louise Young. Her experience with tribute-style shows like An Evening Without Kate Bush means she knows exactly how to honour a beloved icon while creating something fresh and exciting. This talented team works together to ensure the spirit of Victoria Wood’s comedy and music shines through. They understand that her legacy isn't just about the jokes; it's about the connection she made with her audience, and this show is a testament to that enduring bond with a treasured friend.
A bittersweet farewell tour
After five incredible years of selling out venues and sharing the laughter with audiences all over the country, this tour is set to be an extra special one. The team behind Looking For Me Friend has announced that this will be their penultimate UK tour. That’s right, it’s one of the last chances to catch this wonderful celebration on the road. The final curtain will come down after a special Spring tour in 2026.
Why then? Well, 2026 marks a poignant anniversary: the 10th anniversary of the devastating loss of Victoria Wood. This final tour is planned as a 'last hurrah' to honour her memory a decade on. It’s a chance for fans to come together and celebrate her life and work one more time. The performer at the heart of the show, Paulus the Cabaret Geek, feels the significance of this moment deeply.
He says,
"During more than 5 years touring Looking For Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood, I have had the honour of meeting her siblings, school-chums and famous work colleagues as well as countless Traycloths like Michael and I, keen to spend time remembering our missing ‘friend’. With the 10th anniversary of the loss of one of the UK’s most celebrated comics approaching in Spring 2026, Looking For Me Friend is planning a last hurrah. This will be an extra special tour, after which I will finally hang up the beret and finish the crossword in the Woman’s Weekly (for now!). Until then, there’s many more Woodies out there to celebrate with, and we can’t wait to meet them!"
