At 100 acres, Thorp Perrow Arboretum boasts one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees in the North of England, including the national collections of Ash, Lime, Laburnum, Walnut and cotinus.
In spring, snowdrops, crocuses and thousands of naturalised daffodils lift the spirits, followed by carpets of bluebells and clouds of fragrant blossom. Summer sees a riot of colour and an abundance of wildlife. Through the autumn months, leaf colour changes set the woodland trails ablaze with dramatic effect. Many of the plants and trees seen in the Arboretum can be purchased in the Plant Centre, tempting the green-fingered to have a go at recreating some of the spectacular displays.
The Arboretum houses one of the largest Bird of Prey and Mammal centres in the North, offering fascinating flying demonstrations, and the chance to get to know some of the best-loved characters such as Colin the Turkmenian Eagle Owl, and Douglas, the hand-reared baby Meerkat.
The packed diary of events offers something for everyone, from Fairy Day and Circus Skills weekend, open-air tribute band concerts, to expert-led tours and walks. December is a particularly special time as families flock to visit Santa in his Winter Wonderland Grotto, and ghosts, ghouls and goblins come out to play for the fright-filled Halloween Trail in October.
The licensed tearoom serves a delicious range of locally produced seasonal lunches, and a mouth-watering selection of cakes and sweet treats. Kids have their own dedicated menu, perfect for re-fuelling after running wild and free in the adventure play area.
Explore acres of stunning woodland, run wild and free in our adventure play area or meet exotic birds and animals, no two visits to Thorp Perrow Arboretum are the same!
