Welcome to Yorkshire
News • August 13th, 2025
|Have you ever had so much stuff that you run out of space? It's a common problem, but for one successful Yorkshire company, it became a major sign that big things were on the horizon. Glick, a business that designs the gorgeous gift bags and wrapping paper you see in shops, was literally bursting at the seams.
On 13th August 2025, news broke that the company has moved into a huge new head office and distribution centre in Batley. This isn't just about getting a bigger shed for storage; it's a massive step that promises more growth, new jobs, and even more beautiful products for its clients and retailers.

A growing business with a big problem
Imagine being so successful that your own building can't hold all your stuff. That's the spot Glick found itself in. Starting back in the 1990s, this Leeds-born company has become a go-to for luxury gift packaging. The team of 22 people designs a massive range of high-quality gift wrap, bags, and accessories that you've probably seen in John Lewis, Fenwick, and Clintons, not to mention countless independent shops and garden centres. The business was growing fast, but its old premises couldn't keep up.
Becky Dobson, the managing director at Glick, explained the situation perfectly:
"We'd been in our previous building, which was just off Tong Street in Bradford, for 15 years but we'd outgrown it and were renting several external storage units to accommodate our ever-growing client base. This meant we had more stock outside our own building than in it."
Think about that for a second. More stock outside their main building than inside! This setup is not just inconvenient; it can make running a business tricky. The company needed a major change to bring everything back under one roof and handle its increasing sales, especially as its products are shipped to more and more countries.
Finding the perfect new home in Batley
When a company is growing, finding the right new space is a huge decision. It's not just about size; it's about location, facilities, and having a place that can support future ambitions. For Glick, the solution was a massive 34,400 sq ft building on Grange Valley Road in Batley. They've signed a 10-year lease, which shows they're in it for the long haul. A decade-long commitment to a property is a serious statement of intent for any business.
The deal for this huge commercial property was handled by some expert property consultancies, GV&Co and Michael Steel & Co, who were working for the building's owner, Wharfedale Property. Wharfedale Property isn't just a landlord; they are a Yorkshire-based owner of industrial and commercial properties, and they played a key part in making sure the new building was perfect for Glick. It wasn't just a case of handing over the keys to an empty warehouse. The building itself had to be transformed to suit Glick's specific needs for both its office team and its vast range of products.
More than just a warehouse
So, what do you get with a building that's three times bigger than your old one? For Glick, it's a game-changer. Before the team moved in, Wharfedale Property got to work on a major refurbishment programme. They altered the building's layout, put in new doors and windows, and built a completely modern office space. This is a far cry from a simple storage unit. The new premises have been designed to be a fantastic place to work.
One of the most exciting additions is a brilliant new product showroom. A showroom is like a company's own private shop, where it can display all its products for potential clients to see and touch. For a business that relies on beautiful design, having a dedicated showroom is a huge advantage. It allows retailers to see the quality of the gift bags and accessories up close. Becky Dobson highlighted this, saying:
"As soon as we saw this building we knew it was right for us... as well as a vast storage and distribution area, we now have high quality offices, first-class amenities for our team, and a brilliant product showroom that clients can visit, all under one roof."
This all-in-one approach-combining the head office, the main storage, and a fantastic showroom-makes the entire operation much smoother.
What makes Glick's gift products stand out?
It's one thing to have a nice new building, but the success of the business comes down to its products. Glick has a knack for creating gift packaging that people love. How do we know? The company has won a top industry award, the Progressive Greetings' Henries Award for Best Gift Wrappings Range, for 10 years in a row. That's like winning an Oscar for best film every year for a decade!
All of Glick's products, from gift wrap to stylish bags, are designed here in the UK. The company also partners with other well-known brands and designers through special collaborations, keeping their designs fresh and exciting. After the design stage, the products are manufactured in the Far East, a process overseen by Glick's second office in Hong Kong. This global operation supplies gift accessories to countries all over the world, including:
- The US
- Canada
- Australia & New Zealand
- Dubai
- And many more throughout Europe
This international reach is a major part of the business and a key reason why the extra storage space in the new premises was so desperately needed.
What's next for the company?
The move to the new Batley headquarters is all about the future. It's a platform for Glick to keep growing, to hire more people for its team, and to serve its clients even better. The extra space and improved facilities mean the company can operate more efficiently, which is great news for the retailers who stock its products.
Jonathan Jacob from GV&Co summed it up well:
"Glick's impressive recent growth created the need to relocate to much larger, modern premises which could also incorporate its bespoke office and showroom requirements. We are very pleased to have advised Wharfedale Property and the company's pragmatic approach to these works has created a building that meets Glick's long-term operational requirements."
Essentially, this was a smart, practical move. Glick needed a bigger, better home, and they found one. This new chapter for the company shows what a successful Yorkshire business can achieve, expanding from a local start-up into a major international player in the world of gift products.
