I don't enjoy giving negative reviews, however when it's appropriate! Let's start with the positive. Friendly staff. Only on duty when the bar is open but a phone number available if you need someone overnight. That's it! The room was grotty. Coffee cups not changed till the third day. Bins not emptied every day. Bedding clean but the wall behind the bed could be cleaned. (Marks from greasy heads!). Furniture is on its last legs. Drawers either open and don't close or just don't open at all. After seeing the shower room I went straight out to buy flip flops and disinfectant. Definitely NOT cleaned during my stay and I would argue strenuously whether it saw anything more than a flick of a damp duster at another time. Shower unit covered in soap scum. The shower unit appears to be held together with sealant (but still leaks all over the floor).Eventually used the shower to was my hair only. Thank goodness as on day 4 I found a maggot in the shower! (Picture of 'Brian' attached) The shower drain was also blocked! Have advised my work NOT to book here again. Sorry, but I cannot recommend at all.
First impressions were it’s ok, just fairly basic but seemed clean enough. However once the smell of fresh bleach went away it was the total opposite. The bathroom smells of stale urine. The bedroom just smells of damp. There is a small cupboard that reeks of damp and wouldn’t put anything in there. Then small things like no towels in the room and I had to run to the main building for some. no sugar sachets with the tea and coffee. But someone did knock on our door at 10am our first day to check if we needed anything - which when I was just out the shower and in a towel I found less helpful and more stressful. The fire alarm then went off in our room and no one was on site to turn it off, so we were basically chased out our room after 15 plus minutes of the continued siren, in the lashing rain. Someone came from off site just as we were leaving. Personally would not book again but the location is great so depends what is important to you. I can’t wait to go home and boil wash all my clothes from this trip though!
There appear to be two types of rooms at this place, newer outside rooms in a courtyard and older rooms on the second floor of the pub itself. The photos on the website are definitely show the newer rooms. I stayed in one of the rooms in the pub which was frankly tired, badly decorated and poorly furnished. There was no chair or dressing table, the window wouldn’t stay open (I stayed in August) and the room was hot and stuffy at night. There was no water glass, the toilet seat was wobbly and although someone came in and emptied the bin, they didn’t give me any clean mugs. The small car park was full so I had to park nearby in a residential street and carry all my luggage up 3 flights of narrow stairs. Pricewise, the room charge was £135 per night which is far too much for what I received. If you have to stay here, check that you are booking a courtyard room not one in the pub itself. The lady in the pub who greeted me was the only redeeming feature of this place. Not surprisingly, I won’t be returning or recommending this place to others.
We really enjoyed our stay here as top 5 star service from start to finish. Rooms were spotless and the host was the most friendly lady and made us feel welcome from walking through the door and the most grateful, we will definitely be staying here again and we highly recommend to all our friends and family x thank you as we are truly grateful x
Advertised as a double bed, this was not a double bed. Used shower gel and hand wash not new. Room was ok other than those things but not worth the £300 it was being advertised at for new year…. Extortionate
