Ripon City Wetlands - YWT

Beautiful spot! Water, reeds, birds! I loved the child friendly introduction to the animals and birds was really nice! The two hides we visited had lovely views. we saw Gadwall, tufted ducks as well as cormorants and swans etc. Thankyou! NB free parking and entry but no dogs allowed!

Visited yesterday around 4.35om and saw the most amazing Starling murmuration. Car park closes at 4pm to the reserve so park elsewhere if you want to see this. Well worth it. Easy walking along a path.

My wife who needs to use a walker managed to get to the timber structure with plenty of seats where we had coffee and sandwiches.Must say there were no litter bins but so pleased they were not needed as everyone must have taken their rubbish home,wish this was the case everywhere.We managed to walk a little further to see all the water fowl in the lake then returned to the carpark stopping to look at the wild flowers.Delighted to see damsels and dragonfly dancing around the path.what a nice warm day we had and we are pleased we moved to Ripon 2 years ago as there are plenty of wildlife walks.Went bat watching last night at the quarry wildlife park.what a lovely place to live. Went to watch the starlings mumuration and although the weather was slightly bleak, the birds did not disappoint. Was lovely to walk around the area and lots of spots to sit down for picnic or just watch the birds. Beautiful walk along the canal with a lovely bridge and great photo opportunities. Will go back again.

Lovely small nature reserve, my son loved it too. Lost a star because the childrens' information boards miss the market badly. There are things about dogs and penguins and ants. Why aren't there things about lapwings and egrets and kingfishers? My son was confused by the penguins, but would have engaged really well had the boards actually referenced birds he could have looked out for...
