The Vale of York

Lovely pub and food. Staff were super friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Room was comfortable and quiet all night, managed to get some well needed rest. Would Defintley stop again

Visited after the REOPENING of The Vale of York. Such a great feel about it! A lovely ‘local’ pub. Great size, lots of space for either a quiet drink, groups or a social open space where there is football on the large screens. They also do Sunday lunch (which I haven’t tried) and plan to visit for that. Definitely recommend a visit since it has reopened.

Dropped in today just because we were looking for somewhere different. We checked the menu that had a good choice but not massive or pretentious. The long haired Colonel chose the Vale slider and I went for the Monster fish and chips, we both had a pint of lime and soda, the whole cost was less than 36 pounds. Food took a little while to arrive, however they were quite busy. It was well worth waiting for, absolutely amazing quality and really well presented and served hot 🔥. I managed both fillets of fish but surrendered part way through the chunky cut chips unable to eat another mouthful, the Colonel loved her slider that was served in a brioche bun with chilli cheese, bacon and salad also with the perfect chunky chips and a side salad, unfortunately she too was unable to eat it all, not a quality issue just the size of the portions with 2 thick burgers in the slider. Spoke to the guvnor when we were leaving, and he said they had been there about 18 months, they are doing an amazing job and deserve a visit if you are in the area. Just a very short walk south from the station and really not far from Thirsk races, they also have letting rooms for passing or visiting travelers. Give it a go you won't regret it.

I booked a room in advance on booking.com The place looked lovely. On arrival, they took full payment up front. £210 for two nights, before I was shown rhe room. The room was dirty. Cigarette butts outside, dirt on the floor, damage to the door & walls, dirty toilet, filthy sink, half empty shampoo bottle in the shower, creased bedding. When I went to the bar to explain, I was told that they were closed, and I wasnt able to explain. The following morning I informed the staff member present. She denied everything I said or gave explanations. I said that I wasnt comfortable staying for a second night, and asked for a refund for the second night. She said it wasnt possible. In my opinion, it is fair to describe the room as disgusting. I essentially had £105 stolen from me for the second nights stay, as I went to seek alternative, clean accomodation.

Would definitely recommend staying at this pub. The owners which have only been there 5 weeks were lovely and welcoming. The pub and accommodations where spotless and comfortable. Also our breakfasts and evening meals were cooked to perfection. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
