Catcliffe Flash Nature Reserve

Nature reserve, viewable from a small layby on Treeton Lane, with a bench seat. Easy to fit this in with other places of interest around this area e.g. Treeton Dyke, Catcliffe Glassworks and Lake Waverley.

Was on my list of places to check out, Pleasant area for a quick walk, best view of the lake is from the layby on the main road, I didn't see the lake much from any other part which was a shame. Saw some swans on the lake and a camera shy heron nearby :) While in the area I ended up checking the Glass kiln in Catcliffe then headed over to the lake in Waverley and then through to Treeton. So it's a good area to stretch the legs.

Well protected by trees, bushes, bramble and so forth, but hard to see anything, even from the layby as it is so overgrown. Having said that, I can understand why people are kept at a distance and wildlife is protected when you see the amount of rubbish/litter tossed onto the bank beside the layby by people with such little respect for the environment.

Always remember that this is a nature reserve and not a public park, therefore access is limited to a small lay-by if you're driving. You can set up your camera with a decent long lens or use binoculars but that's all. There should be more places like this where people can't go rampaging through wildlife habitat, it's a credit to conservation.
