|As the air gets a bit nippier and nights draw in, thoughts naturally turn to one thing: Christmas. It feels like only yesterday that the summer season was in full swing, but the calendar doesn't lie, and the festive season is officially upon us. For anyone looking for a truly magical way to get into the spirit of things, the Scampston Estate has a whole host of events planned for this December, starting with a very special charity event this weekend. It’s the perfect answer for families and friends wondering how to kick off their Christmas celebrations with a bit of sparkle, good food, and unique shopping, all while supporting a fantastic cause.

The Bothies charity Christmas fair
This weekend, on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November, the heart of the festive action is at The Bothies. The annual Scampston Christmas Fair is set to be a real highlight of the winter. Opening its doors at 10:30 am on both days, this event offers a brilliant day out for everyone. What's even better is that entry to this wonderful charity fair is completely free. All proceeds from the event go directly to The Bothies charity, so every purchase and moment of enjoyment helps support their important work. It's a fantastic opportunity to find unique gifts while contributing to a great local cause.
Imagine wandering through a bustling market, filled with the cheerful chatter of people getting into the Christmas mood. The Bothies will be packed with a huge number of fantastic artisan stallholders. These aren't just any old stalls; they feature talented local craftspeople and producers. Visitors can expect to find everything from handmade jewellery and unique home decorations to delicious local preserves and tasty treats. It’s the ideal place to find that perfect, thoughtful Christmas gift that can't be found on the high street. To keep everyone feeling cosy, there will be plenty of hot food and drinks available from The Bothies cafe, perfect for warming up chilly hands on a crisp November day. This weekend event is a must-visit for anyone looking to make their festive season shopping special.
A special visit from Father Christmas
Of course, no Christmas Fair would be complete without a visit from the main man himself. The good news is that Father Christmas will be taking a break from his busy schedule to attend the Scampston event. This is a magical chance for the little ones to see him before his big night in December. His presence is sure to bring an extra layer of enchantment to the weekend.
And he's not coming alone! The wonderful Fairy Godmothers will also be there, adding a touch of fairytale magic to the festivities. To keep children entertained, there will be free craft sessions on offer. These sessions are a brilliant way for kids to get creative and make their own festive keepsakes to take home. It’s a thoughtful touch that makes the charity fair a truly family-friendly day out, ensuring there’s something to put a smile on everyone’s face. The combination of Father Christmas, magical characters, and hands-on activities makes a visit to the estate an unforgettable part of the festive season.
Finding the perfect real Christmas tree
Once people have soaked up the atmosphere at the Christmas Fair, there’s another important job to do: finding the perfect tree. From 26th November right up until 21st December, the Scampston Estate has its sales area loaded with beautiful, homegrown Christmas trees. These aren't just any trees; they are stunning examples grown right there on the estate. Choosing a real Christmas tree is a special tradition for many, and getting one from Scampston means supporting the local estate and getting a truly fantastic tree.
The trees are available for purchase from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10 am and 4 pm. It's worth noting that they are subject to availability, so it’s a good idea not to leave it too late. For members of Scampston, there’s an extra festive treat: a 10% discount on all trees. Just show a membership card at the Ticket Office to claim the offer. Picking out a real Christmas tree with the family is a memory-making experience, and these beautiful Scampston trees provide the perfect centrepiece for any home this Christmas.
More festive events this December
While the Christmas Fair this weekend is a major highlight, the festive fun at the estate doesn’t stop there. The official season for garden visits might have ended, but the team is hard at work preparing for the reopening on 1st April 2026. In the meantime, the events diary is still brimming with activities throughout December.
For those who love getting creative, there are fantastic floral wreath workshops happening in the conservatory. Imagine learning to make a beautiful, bespoke wreath to hang on your front door. On 26th November, there is also a Willow Weaving workshop where participants can learn to make a large willow toadstool for their home or garden. For younger visitors, the final Nature Scamps and Wildlife Club sessions of the year are taking place, offering a great way for children to connect with nature during the winter season.
