Welcome to Yorkshire

|A legendary name in British music is heading to Sheffield this September—and it’s all in support of a cause that’s as inspiring as his back catalogue.
Peter Hook, co-founder of iconic bands Joy Division and New Order, will take to the stage at Sheffield City Hall for a one-off Q&A evening filled with stories from the front lines of the UK’s music revolution. Hosted by fellow Manchester music icon Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets), the evening promises tales from the post-punk era, behind-the-scenes moments from Hooky's prolific career, and personal insights into life on and off the stage.

But this isn’t just an event for music fans. It’s a fundraiser for Support Dogs, a Sheffield-based national charity that trains specialist assistance dogs for people living with autism, epilepsy, and physical disabilities. Every ticket sold will help transform the lives of families across the UK—many of whom rely on these incredible animals for safety, independence, and emotional support.
Peter Hook, a lifelong dog lover, says the event is a personal one:
“This charity is close to my heart as it specialises in the training of dogs to provide medical assistance to those who need it. The team at Support Dogs work hard to provide families with a tool to provide life-saving support—and also a best friend.”
Support Dogs is the only UK organisation that trains seizure alert dogs, capable of giving up to an hour’s warning before an epileptic episode. It’s specialist, painstaking work—each dog costs £28,000 to train and £3,000 a year to maintain—but the results are extraordinary, both for the people they assist and in reducing long-term pressure on NHS services.
A Night of Stories, Music & Making a Difference
The event takes place on Saturday 7 September in the Memorial Hall at Sheffield City Hall. Tickets are available now (#ad):
Whether you’re a lifelong fan of post-punk, a dog lover, or simply someone who enjoys an evening of inspiring conversation—this is one for the calendar. Expect memories, laughs, reflections… and maybe a few surprises.
Why Sheffield? Why Now?
Sheffield continues to draw some of the biggest names in music, culture and philanthropy—and Peter Hook’s visit is a testament to the region’s enduring pull. From world-class venues to homegrown charities like Support Dogs making national impact, South Yorkshire remains a place where people come together to make a difference.
So if you’re visiting the region—or thinking about making it home—this event is just one more reason to fall in love with Sheffield. It’s a city that’s vibrant, welcoming, and deeply rooted in community.
