I would give zero stars if that were an option. Bought a sofa and the frame snapped within 8 days. Eight. Days. The electric recliner feels flimsy and cheap, making loud creaking, banging, and grinding noises every time it’s used. This is not a premium product, it’s poorly made, badly manufactured imported rubbish being sold at an outrageous price. SCS used to be a decent company in its traditional form, but it has gone completely downhill since the takeover by the new Italian owner. Quality has clearly been sacrificed for profit, and customers are paying the price. Check the SCS Complaints Facebook page, there are hundreds of people reporting the same issues: shocking build quality, mechanical and structural faults, peeling leather, pooling material, and being swindled out of thousands of pounds as SCS fail to provide the refunds we are all requesting. This isn’t an isolated incident, it’s a pattern. I deeply regret not checking that page before buying. Spending thousands on something that fails almost immediately is infuriating. Huge mistake. Avoid at all costs !!!!!!!
My girlfriend and I are currently purchasing a 3 bed property and are”window shopping” for furniture so we are ready once the sale completes. The property will need circa 4-6 sofas, due to it having a front room, a conservatory and a summer house, and our current situation means we essentially have zero furniture. Therefore, we want to get a good idea of what we want early. While at SCS yesterday, we were approached by 2 separate sales advisers. The first was a lovely women who clearly understood our situation and helped us with time lines of when their stock gets “refreshed”. However, the second was extremely awakward and even confrontational. When a tall asian sales advisor approached us and we explained our situation, he quickly told us we need to come back when we have the new house… he said this a few times but lost interest after few minutes and seemingly left us alone, however, around 15 minutes later he approached us again, upstairs, and again just started repeating that we were too early and need to come back once the sale completes. We tried to explain we just wanted to “window shop” for the time being but he either didn’t understand this or didn’t want to accept it. During this bizare and awkward exchange we began to feel uncomfortable so my girlfriend and I got up to leave, at which point the sale assistant decided to follow us to the front door which made it feel like he was essentially kicking us out of the shop… After reading reviews here, it seems SCS is only really interested in customers who are purchasing their products that day, which seems extremely short sighted. I don’t believe we will be returning to the store.
I’ve delayed writing this review as I wanted to receive my sofa first, and due to the Christmas period, my sofa was understandably delayed. I purchased the La-Z-Boy Nevada sofa on the 29th November 2023. I was served by Philip at the Doncaster store and in all fairness, this must have been one of the easiest sales that he has ever done as I knew exactly what I wanted. The sofa is modular and therefore I knew which modules I needed. Phillip was very helpful in making sure that what I had in mind was right and took the time to show me similar items in store and one sofa that was from the Nevada range in the colour that I decided on and helped to reassure me that it would compliment my carpet (I had taken a sample of carpet with me). The whole transaction was painless, and Philip has even sourced me 2 complementing cushions, which I need to collect now that my sofa has been delivered. Furthermore, on the 2nd December, Philip contacted me to tell me that SCS had an offer on where a complementary cleaning kit and easy sliders were being added free. He updated my order accordingly and informed me of the update. On 4th January 2024 I received a text telling me that my sofa had arrived at their depot and was scheduled for delivery on the 11th January. This date was not convenient due to my shift rota, so I phoned to re-arrange delivery. I was offered the 13th January, but this too wasn’t convenient. I asked if I could have the 15th January and was told that SCS don’t schedule deliveries that far in advance and that I would have to phone on the 08/01/2024 to see if my preferred date would be available. The woman I spoke to was a bit off hand and had the audacity to ask what was wrong with the original date. I shouldn’t have to justify my reasons why other than that it doesn’t fit in with me. I wasn’t asking for a date weeks or months down the line. Not wanting to risk having to pay an additional delivery charge, I phoned back on the 5th January and asked if I could have the 13th January but an afternoon delivery as I would have come off nights early hours that morning. I was told that wasn’t possible and was offered the 15th January. Why could I have not been given this date the day before? For that reason alone, I have knocked off 1 star. The day of delivery went smoothly. The tracking service was fine, and the drivers made up half an hour with their other delivers. Aaron and Todd were my assigned crew for delivery. I couldn’t have asked for more. The chaise part of my sofa was too big to fit through my lounge room door and was too big to go by the side of the house for entry through the patio door. The alternative was to carry the chaise through the snicket and to attempt to lift it over the back fence. Fortunately, Todd was able to lift up the fence panel and we were able to carry it through the fence and into the house. Todd and Aaron were efficient in the setting up of my sofa and ensured that everything worked fine. All packaging was collected and removed. The La-Z-Boy Nevada sofa is to die for. I’ve only had it a couple of days so not able to testify on how durable it is or if it is worth the money, but first impressions are positive.
Extremely knowledgeable and attentive staff, the store was bright, clean and inviting. No sales pressure. Relaxed environment, friendly assistance on hand when needed. Christina is an asset to the organisation.
Visited today, and unfortunately won’t return to this store. The first sales assistant was more than helpful (he is usually based at the Cortonwood branch), however when we were still undecided on the sofa in terms of colour & material and how it would fit in our living room we said we would either return to store once measured up or order online, he was fine with this. The manager (I think called Dean), then came over very rude & pushy asking if we would purchase the sofa today. We explained the same reasoning that we wanted to go home, re measure and check the sofa will work in our living room as it’s a big purchase & also that we would need to return as both children were becoming restless. He continued to insist that he knows it will fit based on measurements, and that it’s our loss if we don’t take advantage of the deals before they end. I just found his manner very unprofessional and rather rude, and not welcoming at all. Unfortunately, this has now lost this store a sale down to how we were spoken to in store. The Cortonwood branch has a lot more friendlier, helpful staff.
