We stayed here for the knitting and stitching show at the convention centre which was directly opposite. Kim, our host, was super lovely. No breakfast option but lovely cafes on the doorstep so not a problem. Everything spotless, warm and so so convenient. Will deffo book again next year.
Wonderful stay, lovely hotel, great location. Kim is really friendly, welcoming and professional. Asked me on morning after first night if I would like a room clean or any additional tea/coffee etc. I said I would like another hot chocolate sachet and milk, and Kim put 2 hot chocolate sachets (instead of 1 as usual) and lots of milks! Kim also sent clear instructions in advance (after finding out my arrival time) for how to access the hotel as I was arriving late when no staff would be present. It’s the little things like this that make the difference!
I first arrived around 2 pm being sent instructions via text on how to access the property. keys were left on the desk with papers for a parking spot. I went to my room, and everything seemed fine to begin with. I went out for a few hours, came back, and showered. After my shower, I noticed something on top of the wardrobe (I'm 6ft6). It was a dirty needle and paperwork. The paperwork was about a previous tenant being evicted from the hotel, dated a month ago. I then messaged on the same number we were communicating with each other earlier and heard no reply for around 30 minutes. During this time, I started to look around a bit more and noticed small things like stains on the wall and marks. I then looked at the bedding and noticed burn marks on parts of the drapes. At this point, I did start to feel a bit anxious about staying here. I then called the owners. I felt more anxious after the call. They came across as overly apologetic and almost condescending. it's hard to put words into. I felt really unnerved by how they came across. It almost sounded as if this has happened before. they offered me another room, and I wasn't sure what to do as I did not want to stay there but could not get another room. I tried the other room, and after 30 minutes or so, they called back. They offered me a free night, but they wanted to mark me down as absent on booking.com, and they'll discuss everything else tomorrow. I asked why they couldn't just say there's been a problem, and they said it's because they don't want to be charged for commission by booking.com. I just laughed when she said that. Times are tough, but you're worrying over the commission cost to your family-run business when I've found a dirty needle and paperwork with people's names and emails. I then said, I'm going I hope you have a good night and hung up the phone. I decided to drive all the way back to Devon. They completely ruined my trip to the conference this weekend and have not apologised in writing or offered any other compensation other than the free night. When leaving, I started to notice other things. For example, I had access to every room in the building. the keys were on full display; I saw every single key to every room. I have no idea if anyone else was staying, but considering I booked this room months ago and it was the last one left, I was expecting other people to be in the house. Also, the front door has a key code, which was just left on the correct number, so anybody could have walked in, gotten a key, and stayed in a room. Once I got into my car, I called booking.com and started my long drive back to Devon. Which was insightful as they had informed booking.com that I had left the property before going into the second room that they offered. Which was a lie. If this had been my business, I'd have sent someone over immediately to start deep cleaning that room, but they said someone would be there at 9 am so we could discuss options. Stay far away
Stayed at the place for two nights, very convenient location 10 min walk to the city centre and close to the convention centre. Room was very cozy and clean. Kim the owner was very kind, accommodating and was able to make arrangements on my early check in and late check out. Will definitely book again.
We loved staying here, its really clean and smart and modern. The room was fantastic with a nice comfortable bed, great bathroom with fantastic shower. The owner is called Kim and she is so nice and helpful. The location of the accommodation is ideal, its only a 5 minute walk to all the bars restaurants and shops. We would definitely return and definitely recommend.
