I have read some very negative reviews about Haworth Medical Practice but just wanted to share my own experience. All I can say from my own personal contact as a patient and on behalf of my family members is a huge thank you to all the team. When needing an appointment, I always fill out the online form and have always been lucky enough to receive a phonecall and the offer of an appointment on the same day - usually during the morning. I fully understand that some patients may not be able to utilise the online form and may have problems getting through to speak to someone and I know how frustrating this can be - especially where health is concerned. I have friends and family members who are registered with other practices in other towns and have to sometimes wait weeks for an appointment so I value being able to see a Doctor or Nurse whilst I am actually ill. 2 members of my family registered at Haworth have Cancer and have sometimes had to be referred to Airedale Hospital for additional urgent care. Once again, this has happened on the same day without having to wait. The only thing which angers me regarding Haworth is the carpark. Watching tourists park their cars and walk up the steps into Haworth with their luggage is awful when patients are unable to park. It's stressful enough having to visit the Doctors without the added pressure of being unable to find a space. I believe that this situation is out of the hands of the GP practice. I am definitely not disagreeing with patients who have experienced problems with Haworth but just wanted to add a bit of balance. Once again, thank you so very much to all of you.
As a veteran living with Complex PTSD, I expected professionalism and basic respect. Instead, this practice left me dismissed, blamed, and retraumatised. • I paid for a GP letter that took nearly three months and repeated chasing. On five occasions I was handed back my own work, with the admin team blaming the doctor and the doctor blaming the admin team. In the end, Dr Buckley simply signed my own words and passed it off as her work. • During my first consultation, Dr Buckley spent most of the appointment talking about her cycling hobby and holiday instead of addressing my symptoms. When I raised my mental health, she told my partner: “if you do everything for him, he won’t get any better” – implying that I was lazy. I am a veteran infantry soldier who served seven years, completing one of the hardest training courses in the world. To reduce severe trauma to laziness is not only negligent, it is deeply disrespectful. • She then refused to support me because I was “not an immediate risk to others.” That is not only negligent, it demonstrates a dangerous ignorance of mental health risk assessment. The most damning evidence, however, comes from leadership. In their formal response to my complaint, the Clinical Lead GP, Dr Daniel Wardleworth, wrote that “training on trauma-informed care, especially in relation to veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, is beyond the scope of Primary Care.” This is not one GP’s failure. This is official policy. The leadership of this practice openly admits they will not equip themselves to care for veterans – a direct breach of the Armed Forces Covenant, which they publicly parade membership of as a token gesture. Veterans are fine for them to support on paper, but when we actually need help they refuse even the most basic first-line treatment. This guarantees harm to those of us who have already sacrificed enough. Since I complained, the practice apologised for admin errors while allowing this fundamental clinical and ethical failure to stand. Veterans and trauma survivors deserve better. Patients deserve better. The only exception is Dr Marie Watson, who showed basic empathy and competence. Sadly, she is the exception, not the rule. Dr Buckley’s own words from her complaint letter illustrate her dismissive attitude: she wrote, “I am really sorry that you felt my behaviour was inappropriate and unacceptable,” shifting responsibility onto my perception rather than acknowledging her conduct; and falsely claimed, “We discussed medications and… agreed together that you had tried medications before and it was the in-depth support through a psychiatrist that was most appropriate,” when no medications were explored and no psychiatric referral was made. She also recorded that I recall you thanked me at the end of the consultation,” framing a polite gesture as some kind of validation of her behaviour, when in reality I was simply being courteous. Taken together, these statements reveal an alarming lack of professionalism, clinical judgement, and respect. This practice has chosen to exclude veterans and trauma survivors from proper care. Their neglect is not by accident, but by policy. Avoid if you value your dignity or your health.
I collect my prescription on a Tuesday morning. You used to send it on a Monday so the pharmacy could get it ready for Tuesday. My husband has been to the pharmacy and on phoning modality to find out when it will be sent I am told the pharmacy staff have only just got in, this is at 10 clock. When the practices were all individual I didn't have a problem but now it is so disjointed it's appalling.
I turned up for my appointment this morning only to be told my appointment was at Kilmeny surgery. The appointment confirmation text clearly stated Haworth Medical Practice and I didn't receive any further texts saying the surgery had been changed. This is really poor. I was told I have to go through the faff of making another appointment online as the receptionist couldn't make an appointment for me. I'd give it zero stars if I could!
Contact and administration are really poor. The website is difficult to navigate and I believe has not been tested sufficiently to allow a user friendly experience. Contacting the surgery by phone is extremely difficult. I have been on hold anything from 30 mins to over an hour! I have had to repeatedly chase prescriptions, appointments and information. This can be very frustrating. On a couple of occasions I have had to go into the surgery to resolve these issues. The current systems require review and procedures need changing. I really sympathise with patients that are very ill and those that are not particularly experienced with technology. I will say that when I have had a face to face or telephone appointment with a nurse, GP or receptionist the experience has been very positive. They have always been informative, reassuring and helpful. PLEASE can someone just reassess the online and telephone systems!
