Walk the Walls of York (Like a Medieval Defender, Without the Black Death) 5 out of 5 stars York's city walls are basically a giant time machine. You can walk the battlements like a grumpy old knight, pretend to defend the city from invaders ( squirrels mostly), and get some pretty epic views of York. Just watch out for rogue pigeons and tourists wielding selfie sticks like swords. All in all, a fun way to spend an afternoon and feel a bit historical (without the inconvenience of actual plague).

Tiny bit of wall that dates from around 300AD separate from the main York walls that encircle most of the city centre.
