ok!! 1st I've been coming here for decades now ie since a child, now middle aged.. I'm sorry to write, its gone down-hill alot, ok, the car park has been paved, several years ago now & that's a plus... the cost of parking is ridiculous is £2 for the 1st hour & you get nothing for said fee. foot paths don't seem to be maintained... there was some gravel added to some area's of which suffered from "swamp like conditions ie muddy, puddles etc" again this was yrs ago now... however nothing else has been done.. its nice, don't get me wrong I love bringing my dog for a walk out down here... but for the average individual its lost alot of the appeal over the years. Yes if you go the wood way (right across the river, you've various ways to walk to start with ie, top, middle or bottom paths.. these lead to a nice valley side set of steps which "damn got me the other wk.. I'd to stop 3times, they are uneven & concrete" you can continue out of the wooded area via national walkways OR come back upon yourself & take an alternative path. & yes there are plenty of viewing point for the valley itself Turning left (across the bridge) leads to the open fields, some small caves, the river opens up etc & its nice to paddle, for the dog to swim etc & some fishing etc overall yes I'd say plz experience the area & also plz can the national trust actually start to pay attention & maintain the area better... you want tourists to visit more for context I'm feeling more on the disappointed side, to the previous walk.. it was enjoyable but, for my experiences over the 3 decades of coming to Richmond, the last visit (last wk 29.10.2025) I did feel disheartened (some photo's, none touched in anyway)
Car park isn't national trust so you have to pay extra, toilets were coin access but still nasty and dirty. Didn't find anywhere nice to have a picnic, the shorter (more accessible) routes didn't start near the entrance. Dog mess on the path. Only wildlife we saw were flies, pigeons and screaming children. Not worth coming to at all.
Great place to walk a little slippy and a set of steps that makes Whitbys look tame great views good walking boots needed for the valley side, the river side is flat and grassy think it was around £4 for parking and there’s toilets which are tidy in the carpark
Lovely riverside walks along the Swale. Dog friendly, big car park and toilets too. Spot Kingfishers and Dippers.
Some beautiful walks, some nice and easy. Some rather more taxing! Always wear sensible walking shoes. There is a car park over yhe Bridge with toilets and bins. If you're lucky you may even see the kingfisher!
