If you’re tired of doing the same old stuff with your mates—bowling, pub, repeat—this one’s for you. North Yorkshire Water Park has just added something seriously fun to its lineup: outdoor Laser Tag. And not the ‘beep beep, you’re out’ version you did at school parties.
This one’s proper tactical, adrenaline-fuelled, and live leaderboard-powered. It launched on April 11th, just in time for the Easter holidays, and it’s shaping up to be the next go-to for birthdays, work events, or just burning off a bit of stress.

Laser Tag, but make it action-movie level
So, what’s different about this laser tag experience? For starters, it’s not indoors. You’re out in Adventure Wood, a full-on outdoor zone inside North Yorkshire Water Park, running around in the trees and hiding behind natural cover. Think paintball without the bruises.
Each session is an hour long, packed with four to five high-energy game rounds, and it’s built for groups of six or more. There’s a live leaderboard so you can see who’s smashing it in real time—which, let’s be honest, adds just the right amount of spice if you’re the competitive one in the group.
You’ll also get access to some fun extras like fake hand grenades (don’t worry, all totally safe), which make it feel a bit like you’re in a video game—minus the screen time.
Who’s it actually for?
Honestly, it’s one of those rare things that works for pretty much everyone:
- Kids’ birthdays – yes, they’ll burn off all that cake-fuelled energy.
- Hen and stag dos – if you want something a bit less ‘hangover-heavy’.
- Corporate team-building – because nothing says “trust exercise” like defending your colleague from a pretend grenade.
It’s active, it’s outdoors, and it gives people a chance to work together, get a bit competitive, and most importantly, just have a laugh. It’s one of those activities where you come out a bit sweaty, a lot smug, and absolutely buzzing.
What it costs
Prices depend on the size of your squad:
- 10–20 players: £15 per person
- 8 players: £17.50 per person
- 6 players (minimum): £19.50 per person
So yeah, the more mates you bring, the cheaper it gets. Time to start that group chat and rope everyone in.
What the team says
“We’re really excited to introduce Laser Tag to the Park this Easter. It’s fast-paced, great fun, and perfect for groups looking for something a little different. Whether you’re planning a celebration or a corporate away day, this is a fantastic way to enjoy some friendly competition in the great outdoors.”
— Gareth Davies, Operations Manager at North Yorkshire Water Park
But wait, there’s more this Easter
Laser Tag isn’t the only thing kicking off. The Wipeout Aquapark reopens on April 14th, and if you’re more into land than lake, you’ve still got axe throwing, archery, low ropes, and even bushcraft challenges. Basically, it’s a full day out.
And yes, there’s an on-site café. You can refuel on toasties, chips, or a hot chocolate if you’ve been running around like a maniac for an hour. It’s also got space to chill while the kids carry on with round two—or three.

Where it all happens
The park’s just east of Wykeham, about 6 miles from Scarborough, so it’s a handy distance if you’re from the coast or nearby towns. It started off as a fishing spot but has turned into a full-on outdoor adventure hub since it opened properly in 2017. It’s also part of the Dawnay Estate, which expanded the place in 2021 with new attractions like wakeboarding and a big 70-seat café/events space.
