Welcome to Yorkshire
Inspiration • October 8th, 2025
|The October half-term is creeping up, and with it comes the yearly puzzle: what to do with the kids that isn't the same old thing? If the thought of another afternoon spent carving a slightly wonky face into a pumpkin doesn't fill you with excitement, then you might want to listen up. There's a unique Halloween event happening in Yorkshire that's less about scooping out seeds and more about solving a mystery. William's Den is bringing back its completely immersive Trick or Treat Street experience, and it sounds like a proper adventure. This isn't just your standard trick-or-treating; it's a full-blown interactive story where families get to be the detectives. It’s a perfect plan for the upcoming half-term.

So, what exactly is trick or treat street?
Imagine stepping into a village that only appears around Halloween. That’s basically the idea behind Denville. This isn't just a walk-through with a few spooky decorations; it's a combination of trick-or-treating and interactive theatre. What does 'interactive theatre' mean? It just means you’re not watching a play, you’re in it. Families get to wander down Trick or Treat Street, knocking on the doors of the quirky houses. Behind each door are colourful characters, all part of the story, with special effects making everything feel extra real.
But there's a trick! This year, there’s a murder mystery to solve. As you go from house to house, you're not just collecting sweets (though there are plenty of those for everyone), you're also gathering clues. Each character might drop a hint or a piece of the puzzle. It’s up to the visiting detectives to piece together all the clues and figure out 'who dunnit'. It’s a fantastic way to make the Halloween experience feel like a real adventure, where the kids (and adults!) have to use their brains to crack the case. The whole experience is designed to be a memorable event for all families involved.
A brand new mystery for 2025
Now in its third year, this Halloween spectacular is a bit of a local legend. And to keep things fresh, the organisers have cooked up a brand-new murder mystery for this October. So, even if you’ve been before, the entire story will be different. This means a new puzzle to solve and new secrets to uncover in the village of Denville.
To go with the new mystery, two brand-new characters are moving into the neighbourhood. Of course, some familiar favourites from last year will also be making a return, so there will be some friendly faces to greet. It’s a great mix of new and old, ensuring the experience is exciting for everyone. And let's be honest about the most important part: the sweets. It’s not just the kids who get to enjoy the treats. During this special trick-or-treating adventure, the grown-ups get sweets, too. Because why should children have all the fun?
More than just a murder mystery
Once the mystery is solved and the villain is unmasked, the fun doesn't stop. The adventure continues across Denville with a whole host of other activities to keep the spooky spirit going. The team from William’s Den, known as the Play Pioneers, will be running games and providing entertainment for all the families. There’s even a disco, so you can show off your best monster mash.
Speaking of monsters, fancy dress is highly encouraged. There are prizes up for grabs every single day for the best-dressed families, so it’s a good excuse to go all out with your costumes. And when you need a break from all the excitement, there are plenty of photo opportunities, street food stalls to grab a bite from, and even a fully-licensed bar for the adults. It’s a complete Halloween day out, not just a quick trick or treat run.
Daytime fun or after dark scares?
The event is set outdoors in a seriously eerie maize field right next to William’s Den in North Cave, which adds to the spooky atmosphere. Families can choose the type of adventure they’re after by picking from different sessions. The daytime sessions run from Saturday 25th to Thursday 30th October and are perfect for families with younger children or those who prefer their Halloween fun to be a little less scary.
But for those who fancy a bit more of a thrill, there are special 'after dark' sessions. These spookier experiences take place from 5:30pm on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th October. Imagine solving a murder mystery in a shadowy maize field at night – it definitely takes the excitement up a level! This makes the event suitable for a wide range of ages, from tiny tots to brave teens.
How to get your tickets
Tickets for this unique Halloween experience are on sale now, and it's a good idea to book them early. There’s a limited batch of Early Bird tickets available with special prices, so it’s worth getting in quickly to grab a bargain. Prices start from £7.20 for children aged 1-3 and £18.30 for anyone over 3. Booking online is the best way to secure your spot and choose the time slot that works best for your family.
There’s also the option to upgrade your tickets to a gold or platinum package. These come with special extras like souvenir photos to remember your detective work and marshmallows for toasting – a perfect autumn treat. It's important to note that the main William’s Den adventure play area won’t be open during the Trick or Treat Street event, as all the focus is on the immersive mystery.
Tor Carver, the co-founder of William’s Den, shared some thoughts on the event:
“We’re excited to welcome families back to experience the magic of Trick or Treat Street. Trick-or-treating meets immersive theatre, it’s fun for all the family and the best way to murder a few hours this October half term.”
“So don your best costumes, bring your detective skills and get into the spooky spirit with us this half-term. Tickets are flying, so we recommend booking early to secure the best slot!”
It sounds like this half-term adventure is one you won't want to miss. A brilliant trick to make your Halloween one to remember.
