Welcome to Yorkshire

•Ever noticed how your favourite places seem to get a little bit better over time? A new lick of paint here, a new item on the menu there. Well, things are definitely looking up over at Bentham Golf Course, which has been making a name for itself as a top spot in the North West region. The club announced on November 21st that it’s bringing in some fresh faces to take on important leadership roles. It’s all part of a bigger plan to keep up with its amazing growth and make the experience even better for everyone who swings a club or just pops in for a cuppa. These two new senior appointments are set to make a real difference to the club’s day-to-day operations and its future plans.

Meet the new clubhouse manager
First up, let’s talk about the clubhouse. It's the hub of any golf course, right? It’s where you grab a bacon butty before a round or celebrate a (rare) birdie afterwards. To make this space even better, Matt Stables is stepping in as the new Clubhouse Manager. Matt comes from a hospitality background, which is just a fancy way of saying he’s an expert at making people feel welcome and looked after. Think about the best hotel or restaurant experience you’ve had – that’s the kind of vibe he’s aiming to bring to the course. His main job is to boost the club’s event offerings. What does that mean for you?
- More organised events and get-togethers for members and guests.
- Better facilities for parties, meetings, and maybe even weddings.
- A smoother experience for anyone booking the on-course accommodation.
Speaking of which, the demand for the Wenningdale Escapes pods and lodges has gone through the roof. People love the idea of staying right on the course, waking up, and walking straight onto the fairway. These cool little pods and bigger lodges are available for hire and even for sale. Matt’s role will be to manage these operations, ensuring the growth in stay-and-play guests is handled perfectly, making sure everyone from club members to holidaying guests has a brilliant time.
A familiar face in the golf shop
Next, we head over to the golf shop. This is the place for all your essentials, from tees and balls to that new driver you’ve been eyeing up. Taking charge here is Josh Mullen, who has been promoted to Golf Retail Manager. This is great news for the local community, as Josh is already a well-known and liked figure at Bentham Golf Course. He was previously the Assistant Bar Manager, so he’s already shown he has fantastic customer service skills and knows how to build strong relationships with people. Moving into one of the key leadership roles, Josh’s focus will be on the retail experience. This isn’t just about selling stuff; it’s about creating a welcoming environment where both seasoned members and total beginners feel comfortable asking for advice. He’ll be expanding what the golf shop offers, making sure it’s stocked with the latest gear and essentials. His deep understanding of the club’s community means he’s the perfect person to make sure the golf shop is more than just a shop – it’s a part of the Bentham experience. Improving the retail operations is a big part of the club's plan for future growth.
What does this mean for Bentham Golf Course?
So, why make these changes now? It’s all about building on success. The course has had a fantastic few years, with more people playing golf and staying in the on-course accommodation than ever before. To keep that momentum going, the club is investing in its team. These senior appointments are a sign that Bentham Golf Course is serious about being the best in the North West region. By having a dedicated Clubhouse Manager and Golf Retail Manager, the club can improve its operations across the board.
Operation director, John Marshall, puts it perfectly:
“We’ve had a very strong few years of growth across our golf course and stay-and-play business. To continue that momentum into the new year, we’re investing in talented people who can help us take the next step forward. Josh and Matt will both play key roles in strengthening our operations and ensuring every player and guest enjoys the best possible experience every time they visit.”
It’s clear the focus is on making sure every single person, whether they are long-standing members or first-time guests, has an amazing time. From the moment they arrive, to the quality of the events, to the service in the golf shop, these new leadership roles are designed to elevate the entire experience. It’s an exciting period of growth for the golf course, and these changes are set to benefit the whole community.
