|Anyone wandering through Leeds city centre knows the feeling. It's lunchtime, you're hungry, and you need something tasty, fast. Well, great news is on the horizon for fans of Mexican food. Tortilla, a name many in Leeds already know and love, is not just staying, it's getting a major upgrade. The popular restaurant is moving to a brand-new, bigger spot on Bond Street this January. And to celebrate the opening, there’s a seriously tempting offer on the table: a completely free lunch. That’s right, free burritos are coming to town.
A bigger and better home on bond street
It’s always a bit sad when a favourite food spot closes, but this is one of those good news situations. The current Tortilla in Trinity Kitchen will be serving its last tacos on Monday 19 January at 3pm. But don't worry, it’s not going far. The team is just packing up and moving a few steps away to a new high-street location at 33 Bond Street. The official grand opening of the new restaurant is set for Friday 23 January. So, what's different? Space, for a start. The new place on Bond Street is bigger, which means more room for customers to sit and enjoy their meal without feeling squashed. It’s been designed with a refreshed, modern look, creating a really welcoming vibe. It’s the perfect upgrade for a brand that’s clearly a big hit across the city. The new restaurant is designed to be a great spot to grab a quick lunch or hang out with friends. This new location on Bond Street is a big step up.
Did someone say free lunch?
Right, let’s get to the bit everyone is waiting for. To celebrate the opening, Tortilla is throwing a massive welcome party in the best way possible – with a free lunch. On Thursday 22 January, people have the chance to get a sneak peek of the new restaurant and grab a free meal. The offer runs between 12pm and 1:30pm, and it’s a good one. Customers can claim one free medium burrito, bowl, or salad. To get this amazing deal, there's a small bit of admin. People need to be part of the Leeds Burrito Society. It's free to join, and new members can sign up online. Once signed up, they’ll get a QR code sent to their email, which they just need to show on the day. It's important to remember that this offer is on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's probably a good idea to get there early as it’s only available while stocks last. And that's not all. The sneak preview event will also feature a live guac bar, where you can see the magic happen as fresh guacamole is made right in front of you. Plus, Burrito Society members will get another treat: a 2-for-1 offer to use during the first week of the official opening. It’s a pretty generous way to say hello to the neighbourhood. Tortilla's Interim Marketing Director, Olivia Paris, shared some thoughts on the move: “We’re incredibly excited to be opening our new high-street Tortilla in Leeds. Moving into a bigger space on Bond Street allows us to offer an even better experience for our customers, with a fresh, modern look alongside the same freshly made, California-style burritos and tacos Leeds already knows and loves. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in.”
What's the big deal about tortilla?
For anyone who hasn't tried it yet, Tortilla is all about fresh, flavourful California-style Mexican food. Think of it as a world away from greasy takeaways. Everything is freshly prepared from scratch, every single day. The menu is built around choice, letting customers build their own perfect meal. The numbers are pretty mind-boggling. There are over 4 million possible combinations for a burrito, so nobody ever has to have the same meal twice (unless they want to). The menu is also designed with everyone in mind, with over 70% of the fillings being plant-based. They are serious about where their ingredients come from. The guacamole is made with hand-smashed Hass avocados, the chillies are imported from Mexico for that authentic flavour, and the barbacoa (that's slow-cooked, tender shredded beef) is made using grass-fed British Isles brisket. Everything is made to order, and the team is so efficient that meals are typically served in under 90 seconds. Fresh food, fast. That's the Tortilla promise.
More than just a burrito joint
The whole vibe of a Tortilla restaurant is inspired by the casual taco shops, or 'taquerias', of San Francisco. It's a relaxed, social place. It's the kind of spot you can pop into with friends after work, bring the family for a weekend treat, or meet up with colleagues for lunch. Alongside the brilliant food menu, they also serve beers and margaritas, making it a proper meal-out destination. Beyond the delicious tacos and burritos, Tortilla is also a company that thinks about its impact. They are proud to send zero waste to landfill from their restaurants and use 100% renewable electricity across their sites. So, people can feel good about what they’re eating and where they’re eating it. This new restaurant on Bond Street in Leeds is set to be a fantastic addition to the city's food scene, bringing fresh Mexican flavours to even more hungry customers this January. The opening is just around the corner, and that free lunch offer is one not to be missed.
