Mappleton beach car park, at the top of the beach ramp is likely to be closed at some point in the near future due to coastal erosion. The coastline here is eroding at quite a rate. PARKING There is only a few parking bays here but a new car park has been developed plopped off the main road adjacent the old post office and a cross the road of the village church. FOOD AND DRINK The old post office is a little shop now so hat serves hot and cold food as well as drinks. There is a little bit of seating at the front but also has dog friendly seating inside at the rear. TOILETS There are No toilets at this beach, so be ready to hold it, till you return to base. THE BEACH The beach itself is in two parts, North towards Hornsea and south towards Withernsea. The north beach is quite sandy, with soft sand, whereas the south beach is quite wet. FOSSILS If your a fossil hunter then is recommend heading towards the Withernsea stretch of the Beach, but be sure to check the tidal times, as the sea pretty much goes all the way up to the cliffs. You don't want to get cut off. There are lots of different fossils to be found, like Ammonites, Gryphaea and Byvalves. ORDINANCE The further down the beach you may come a cross old undetinated ordinance from the second world war, as the military used to target practice firing onto shoreline. Yes undetinated and the MOD regularly, even to this day head down the beach to dispose of any that are exposed. It is recommended NOT to touch it if you find any.
11 space car park, way too small for the area. Think twice about parking on the grass either side of its access road - I did like others and got my first ticket in 40 years of driving. Park instead on the street closer to the Old Post Office Tearoom. (Rating is for the number of spaces not the fine).
The cliff Lane car park is a lot smaller than it used to be due to coastal erosion. It's very difficult to find a space at weekends and during nice weather. It is nice and flat with views over the sea. It is free to use all day. It has excellent free to use male and female toilets. There is a little cafe in the Old Post Office at the end of the road.
Small carpark above the beach. Room for around 8 or 10 cars. Motorhomes & coaches (minibus) prohibited - it's not big enough. There are also 4 portaloos.... not the cleanest when we visited, but it was winter, so it was probably not maintained as often as in tourist season. Parking is free & you pass the post office tea room to get to the carpark.
Free car park but only fits 6 cars so good luck getting a spot
