About The Star Inn The City

Description

The Star Inn The City opened in 2013, taking inspiration from Andrew Pern’s The Star Inn at Harome, but with the aim of creating a Brasserie-style Star Inn for the City serving ‘a little taste of the countryside in the city’. It has rapidly established itself as one of York’s favourite celebration destinations.

Enviably located on the edge of York’s Museum Gardens and accessed via a tunnel through the city walls near Lendal Bridge, the restaurant’s Terrace runs alongside and the River Ouse affording some of the best views in York matched with stylish interiors and a great atmosphere.

The restaurant is open daily from breakfast until late. The Breakfast Menu is served until late morning and, from noon, the All Day Menu is supplemented by Daily Specials and snacks available for al fresco diners. The restaurant has an extensive drinks list featuring wines, local ales and speciality cocktails. The Star Inn The City is also one of the only Pilsner Urquell Tankovna tank beer sites in the North of England

Advance booking is highly recommended, especially at the weekends and during University Graduation ceremony periods. Bookings can be made online for groups of up to 5 people via www.starinnthecity.co.uk, whilst larger bookings can be arranged directly with the restaurant. In addition to the very popular glazed Garden Room and cosy River Room, there is the option of the Private Dining Room on the first floor for larger groups. The Terrace alongside the River Ouse is extremely popular on sunny days and, owing to the vagaries of the weather, no bookings can be taken for this area.

Look out for special events, including dinners hosted by Andrew Pern and ‘Guest Chef Michelin Dinners’.

We went here on a date night, the resturant was cosy and felt intimate. Our server was amazingly friendly and made polite conversation. The food was divine, we shared the truffle éclairs as a starter and both had the slow cooked ox cheek for mains, I had the toffee pop corn choux bun for dessert which was super tasty and my husband had the cheese board which he raved about. We also had a bottle of wine, for as starter, 2 mains and 2 desserts +wine the bill was £150 including a service charge which was really reasonable for the quality of the food and wine we both thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely back on our next visit to York.

Been here several times and have never been disappointed. Latest visit was a Sunday evening for a family celebration. The place has a lovely interior and has views to the river and park and there's a great outside terrace overlooking the river. The menu is varied and has some really interesting dishes. Everything we ate was delicious and the venison was outstanding. Prices aren't cheap but good value for the quality/location. Highly recommended

Wow. This was our first visit and won't be our last! The restaurant is beautiful, the staff are amazing and the food was perfect. We visited as two adults and two kids and the staff were fantastic with the kids, making them laugh and including them in the ordering process. The portions were extremely generous and every bring was fresh, hot and full of flavour. There honestly isn't a bad thing to say about this place, even the toilets are pretty!!

We had a lovely Sunday roast experience. The entire meal was faultless, great service and kid friendly place. I would have liked slightly more gravy on my roast but it was excellent otherwise. The tarte tatin was also spectacular! Would happily return.

I read the reviews and thought we would give it a go as we were in York for a short break. Saturday lunchtime at 1pm in early November, it wasn't very busy. Service good and in good time so nothing to complain about there. Food was good, not amazing and for the price I was certainly expecting better. I had the burger which was on the specials, nice burger but I would expect for the price home made chips not the French fries served up.
