About The Whippet Inn

Description

Opening its doors in 2014 The Whippet Inns main aim was to get the best food produce in Yorkshire and then pair it with real ales, lagers, spirits and wines from around Great Britain. Proudly flying the Yorkshire flag has served them well & even earned them a few awards along the way.

Great Beef is their thing, offering guests a fantastic variety of ever changing cuts & breeds, but equally delightful are their seasonally inspired plates featured on their extensive A la Carte menu, focusing on locally caught fish and unique vegetarian dishes.

The ideal spot for any occasion, The Whippet Inn serves both lunch & dinner, seven days a week, alongside the main menu & specials boards they offer for their legendary Set Price Lunch menu, plus ‘Let’s Get Roasted’ every Sunday, an institution unto itself and one of Yorks best kept secrets.

The bar is an eclectic mix of Yorkshire Ales & Lagers – right through to over 50 bespoke gins- continuing on as York’s Original Gin House, celebrating the fact every Sunday with Gin Club.

When it comes to dining the main restaurant is both an original and quirky location, a wonderful old building with its open plan restaurant, adjacent bar and walled garden can adapt perfectly to any occasion. Looking for something a bit different? The somewhat OTT Private Dining Room, lovingly referred to as ‘The Padded Cell’ can seat up to 16 guests for dining- ideal for groups celebrating in style or for corporate bookings: Free Wi-Fi Internet and Day Delegate Packages are available upon request, this room is prefect for boardroom meetings and small presentations.

The Whippet Inn has created a home from home atmosphere where guests can relax & enjoy themselves, with a nostalgic decor that is individual if not a little risqué, often referred to as ‘Yorks Hidden Gem’- all this is delivered with genuine down to earth homely Yorkshire hospitality.

We had booked here for Sunday lunch on our visit to York, as the food looked amazing. Great decor and service here. And is actually reasonably priced. The cocktails were ok. Starters were good, Lacked flavour, not amazing but nice. But what let it down was the Sunday lunch. We both had the beef, it is served pink, which is fine as that is how I like it. But unfortunately not a great joint. It was so chewy took ages to chew and even with a steak knife you couldn’t cut it. I noticed most people who had the beef that day left the beef as we both did. We left feeling Disappointed. However the rest of the meal was nice.

Attended Thursday, 23 Oct for birthday dinner for 2 at 6:30pm. Booked two days in advance, with lots of availability. Wonderfully cosy atmosphere, with extremely attentive and polite staff. Generally quiet evening, with only four of the two dozen tables being occupied. Star of the show was the food: we went for two starters - the rarebit and 'coronation' roe, followed by Chateubriand platter. All absolutely delicious. One of those meals where you'd each say: "I couldn't cook this, even if I had all the ingredients and all of the recipes". By far, one of the best steaks I've had in years. Would definitely book again, if I come by York

Been meaning to try the whippet inn the last few times we've stayed in york and SO GLAD we finally went. The steak was one of the best I've ever had and crumble is definitely a must try. Staff brilliant and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back next time we stay in york. 🥰😋😋😋👍👍👍

We've visited this pub restaurant before and loved it. Housed in a Grade II listed building it has a comforting ambience. The menu is definitely meat based and the service is really nice: friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We really like it. We nibbled on some "Blistered Padron peppers with sea salt" - excellent - and then, as we'd had a lunch, we chose to share: - 300g Chargrilled Ex Dairy Ribeye served with beef fat roast tomato, spinach, garlic & watercress pesto, & skinny fries or chunky chips The steak was perfectly cooked - beautifully medium rare, with skinny chips and a delicious brandy-based sauce. No room for pud, unfortunately! A really good meal in a really nice place. (I took the photo after we'd shared the steak and started to eat it! Lol) (Also posted to my food blog on Instagram @AbbeyKing16)

We had an absolutely delicious meal and lovely evening here. We had the Sunday Lunch menu, with dessert and left stuffed and satisfied. The food is very tasty and fresh (excellent Yorkshire puddings), very nice cocktails as well, a nice selection that isn't just your standard ones. The service is fantastic, couldn't fault it at all. Angus (like the steak, as he introduces himself) was especially good. He was friendly, chatty, and approachable. The staff has a whole are all like this and accomodating too.
