ON

ON is the third full length studio album from Tasmin Archer. Uncomfortable with being treated like a commodity, Tasmin took her first break from releasing music following the end of her contract with EMI. That sabbatical concluded in 2006 when ON became the first release on her own label, Quiverdisc. The album was written and recorded with long time partner John Hughes. Bruce Thomas, from the Attractions, contributed bass on all the tracks.ON resonates with often sparse atmospheric, adventurous and soulful contemporary pop songs that reflect life, death, hope, despair, beauty and violence. The 10 tracks go back and forth between arch melodicism that reflect XTC, Elvis Costello, and Aimee Mann 34Complaints,34 34Emergency,34 34Hello34 and more urgent rhythmic productions 34Effect is Monotony,34 34Take Care34. Interspersed with further reflective and observational takes each track is blessed with the deeply soulful tone of Tasmin039s voice. Maintaining a sense of individualism the overall sound of ON has a gloss that distances itself a little from contemporary indiepop without it becoming crassly commercial.
