Goldwater Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, Wairau Valley, Marlborough 2024/25

This Sauvignon Blanc is crafted from some of the oldest vines of the Wairau Valley of Marlborough. The region is renowned for its tropical and ripe fruit expression, with a minerality that is shaped by shallow, stony and fast-draining river terraces. And Grove Mill winery, the estate behind Goldwater Wines, know how to nurture this terroir. A pioneer of sustainability in New Zealand, they use solar power alongside minimal intervention techniques, with a wetlands reserve for the preservation of local flora and fauna. They even use sheep to graze the vineyards in winter. Using high-quality blocks, the grapes are selectively harvested and then gently crushed and pressed before being settled into the tank. A small percentage is run to barrel for wild fermentation, with the rest racked to stainless steel tanks inoculated with selected yeast strains to promote aromas specific to Sauvignon Blanc. Expect intense notes of passion fruit, elderflower and gooseberry, followed by pink grapefruit and lime flavours, and a refreshing, citrusy finish.
