Diemersdal Wine Estate Grüner Veltliner, Durbanville, South Africa 2023/24

Thys Louw is the sixth generation of his family to head up wine-making on the Diemersdal Estate. He is committed to showing that the region of Durbanville – and South Africa as a whole – is capable of producing world-class wines. As such, innovation, inspiration and a pioneering vision have resulted in Thys garnering a reputation as one of the most dynamic and awarded winemakers in the country, with Diemersdal making South Africa’s first Grüner Veltliner wine. Their 200 hectares of vines are grown in dryland conditions, allowing the grapes to ripen uniformly, developing rich, concentrated flavours. Six generations of winemakers over two centuries have shared the same passion, creating unique and soulful wines which express their distinct Durbanville terroir. Expect inviting aromas of kiwi, stone fruit and lime, with sweet melon, ripe pear and white pepper notes. A medium-bodied wine, with a concentrated palate and a lingering, mineral finish. This food-friendly variety pairs well with spicy and fragrant Asian-inspired dishes.
