Orpheus & the Raven is the brand created in 2015 from the fruitful partnership between winemaker Etienne Louw and designer Brenden Schwartz. With a creative and innovative approach, this South African company produces excellent quality wines, designed to have a deep connection with the world of art. This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc produced in very limited quantities is a tribute from the importer Peter and Annick De Leeuw to their daughter who passed away prematurely, and a large part of the proceeds are donated to charity. Silke is an intense and characterful wine with a deep and intense red color. On the nose, it reveals a broad and complex aromatic profile typically Bordeaux with strong notes of ripe dark fruit (especially cherries and blueberries), hints of undergrowth and herbs, licorice, and coffee. On the palate, it is textured and powerful, rich and soft with firm but perfectly integrated tannins. It has good concentration and a medium-full body. The finish is long and warm and recalls spicy notes. It can certainly remain in the cellar for a few years, but it is ready to drink immediately, perhaps paired with a roast duck breast, a lamb tagine, or pulled pork.
