Product Description
Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in Milo, Sicily, Maugeri is a family-run winery founded by Renato Maugeri and his three daughters, reclaiming 7 hectares of vineyards inherited from the family and abandoned for years. The plots are distributed across traditional dry-stone wall terraces, caressed by sea breezes, where Etna's signature grape varieties are grown: Carricante, Nerello Mascalese, and Cataratto. The Carricante grapes come from south-facing terraces in the Contrada Volpare area of Milo, on the eastern slope of Mount Etna, approximately 700 meters above sea level, just in front of the woods (Frontebosco in fact translates as “facing the woods”). The bush trained vines grow in sandy, mineral-rich volcanic soil. After manual harvesting and gentle pressing, fermentation takes place partly in stainless steel (40%) and partly in 500-liter French oak tonneaux. The finished wine then ages on the lees for 8 months before bottling. In the glass, Maugeri Etna Bianco Superiore Contrada Volpare reveals a brilliant straw yellow color with golden highlights. Its aromatic profile is fragrant and expressive, with floral notes of jasmine, rose, and orange blossom, fruity hints of peach and plum, citron zest, and a final touch of ginger and flint. On the palate, it is taut, vibrant, and elegant, with a distinctive savory edge and refreshing acidity. The finish is long and mineral. Try it with herb-roasted chicken, lemon scallops, or creamed vegetable soups.
