Product Description

Hiroshima is the largest city in the Chugoku Region. The city gained worldwide recognition when the first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945. The bomb caused immense destruction, obliterating nearly everything within a two-kilometer radius. Despite predictions that the city would be uninhabitable, Hiroshima was rebuilt with great effort. Historical monuments, including Hiroshima Castle and Shukkeien Garden, were reconstructed. A large area in the city center was designated as Peace Memorial Park, reflecting the city's aspiration for peace. Miyajima, less than an hour from Hiroshima, is famous for its giant torii gate that appears to float on the water at high tide. This view is ranked as one of Japan's three best. The island is officially named Itsukushima, but it is commonly called Miyajima ("shrine island") because of its close association with Itsukushima Shrine. Like the torii gate, the shrine's main buildings are also built over water.
