Product Description
Cellar for up to 7 years. No need to decant before serving. Chateau Purcari is famous in its native Moldova for being the country’s oldest and most exciting winery. French settlers in this corner of south-eastern Moldova noticed the similarities between local terroir and that of their native Bordeaux which lies on the same latitude and has similar rubidium-rich soils. They partnered with local monks to start planting Bordeaux varietals here which are today grown at Purcari alongside indigenous varieties. The estate’s Vinohora wines blend these Bordeaux varietals and local grapes to create fascinating and original cuvees which fuse the two winemaking cultures to craft something entirely new. This red blend is composed of the local Rara Neagră grape and Malbec which was traditionally used in Bordeaux as a blending grape. The fruit is grown in estate vineyards close to the Black Sea and is carefully harvested by hand to ensure it arrives at the winery in perfect condition. Vinification is then carried out using traditional winemaking techniques and the young wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, producing a rich and robust red wine which is bursting with dark fruit notes and hints of spice and bitter chocolate.
