Product Description
Cellar for up to 10 years. Serve chilled. Named after the Tolpuddle Martyrs who were transported to Australia in 1834 for the crime of starting a trade union in rural England, Tolpuddle Vineyard is set in the south-eastern corner of Tasmania in Coal River Valley. The vineyard was first planted in 1988 by Tony Jordan and Garry Crittenden and later purchased by current owners Martin Shaw and Master of Wine Michael Hill Smith in 2011. In 2006 the winery won the very first Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year award, demonstrating the exceptional quality of the local terroir. The cool, dry climate offers ideal conditions for making Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with plenty of elegance and aromatics. The grapes for this bottling are all harvested by hand and fermented in French oak barrels. The young wine is then aged in the barrel for 9 months with some lees stirring during the maturation period. The nose is intensely aromatic with hints of honeysuckle, lemon zest, white peach and brioche and biscuit notes from the lees. On the palate there is a well-rounded texture, medium body and vibrant stone fruit notes along with hints of vanilla and toast from the oak. A great wine to keep in the cellar for a few more years or to enjoy now alongside roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or mature cheeses.
