Ruffino Modus Toscana 2021

Modus is a stunning red blend, composed of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, harvested from vineyards in hills overlooking Florence. It has a dark ruby colour with hints of purple, and romantic aromas of cassis, herbs, tobacco and balsamic. It was first produced in 1997, as Ruffino’s first foray into the rule-breaking Super Tuscan style. Ruffino is one of the oldest wine houses in Tuscany, with a history dating back to 1877. It was established by two cousins, Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino. They started as they meant to go on, winning their first gold medal at the Milan Wine Exhibition in 1881. Today, Ruffino is still one of the best-renowned wineries in the region, supplying the world with a stunning, long-lasting range of Tuscan wines. Modus is soft and elegant on the tongue, with an impressive structure and velvety, integrated tannins. It spent 12 months ageing in oak barriques, imparting a subtle, woody outline to the experience. However, the palate is dominated by intense notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and strawberry, with an undercurrent of cinnamon, vanilla and tobacco smoke. The hints of baking spice linger for a while after each sip. Modus is ideal for pairing with Parmesan cheese, roasted game, or lasagna.
