Rijk's Reserve Pinotage 2021

Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Rijk’s Wine Estate was established in 1996, in the small town of Tulbagh near the South African coast. It is a family venture, founded by Neville Dorrington, who recognised the untapped potential of “Land Van Waveren”, a majestic mountain basin in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Since 2022, Adriaan Jacobs has been the head winemaker at Rijk’s, overseeing the stunning range of classically South African wine. The Reserve range is exclusively crafted from the oldest vines on the farm and the finest few barrels of each year. The Pinotage is a rich ruby red, exhibiting a deep medley of dark fruit aromas supported by hints of white pepper, tart raspberry, and cocoa. Composed of 100% Pinotage, this wine brings a powerful mouthfeel and silky, precise tannins. On the palate, you will discover sumptuous fruity flavours of cassis, blueberry and red cherry, with hints of elegant spice, oak, and leather. The Reserve Pinotage is a blend of the finest 20 barrels in Rijk’s cellar, following 22 months of ageing in French oak. Consider pairing it with some red meat dishes, such as herb-crusted lamb, wild game, or a red-wine-based pasta.
